They cut you off...

Is this mobile or landline? If it's landline you're friend really needs to get out more because I don't see how anyone could spend that much, it costs like 0.001p per hour these days.
The network will cut your phone off, and chase you for the money I expect.
is it mobile phone or landline phone?

They'll most likely cut him off altho if he contacts them to arrange a payment plan he may avoid that and just end up having the phone restricted to incoming calls only til he clears the debt. If he tries to forget about it they'll cut him off, take him to court if they need to so they get their money and register it on his credit file so he might have problems getting credit in the future.

They're actually pretty ok with you if you call up and say you can't pay but are willing to enter into a payment plan of £x per month til the bill is cleared - best bet is to call the phone company asap.

Cutting you off is a good thing, and the least of your worries.

At the very least they mess up your credit rating by reporting you to some credit referencing agency. Next time you try to get a phone/credit card etc you might be refused.

They try to get the money back somehow. They can sell your debit to another agency that will somehow try to get the money back from you. Usually they will send you letters etc.

Whenever anyone is in debt the sooner they call the company and tell them they can’t pay it back, the better it is in the long run. Might avoid bad credit record.

they can reposses members of your family or even you could face public execution for such a crime.

Tonight Matthew
One of my mates is in the sh*t somewhat. He has two months' worth of phone bill (£500+) to pay, and he simply doesn't have the money to do so.

Can someone tell me what happens if you simply can't pay your bill?

Hes got a couple of options,

First things first is tell him to buy a pay as ya go mobile.

Second thing is stop using that mobile, They'll chase you forever for the money if you dont get a payment plan.

Or you could do like one of my friends, who just put money aside in another bank account, Ignored the phone bills for a year, then paid it off.

It actually worked out more in his benefit, because first it went to debt collection agencies... the bill went up, then went back down again once it got passed back to the phone company, then when he rang the phone companies new debt collection agency a year later to pay, they offered him 40% off the bill if he paid there and then... and he did... THUS saving money!

one thing one of my blagging friends told me, is that you can never goto prison for owing money, also if you offer to sign up to a payment plan, they HAVE to accept whatever you offer, even if its something stupid like £2 a week. because you've made an attempt to offer them payment.

ALSO: Dont take no **** of the Callcentre monkies, Tell them you want to speak to their manager, someone who doesnt have to read off a screen to get your own way, then claim that the callcentre monkey was rude to you and you should get a goodwill jesture as well as your own way.

(before anyone starts, I've been a callcentre monkey at a Telephone operater place before, I know how the system works lol )

at the end of the day £500 is a lot to your mate but its nothing to them, and not worth their while taking you to court or getting agencies involved

thats rubbish, your credit only goes into spiral after it hits a certain amount that you dont pay, I think its £3000 or whatever the basic is that those DebtHelp agencies will help you.

If he keeps paying all his other things that he owes, it'll all be fine and he can default on that £500.
Sadly wrong my darling Scotto!

Whenever you have a credit committment like a phone contract, credit card etc records of your monthly payments (i.e. that you made them on time, or if they were late, how late they were) are passed on to credit reference agencies so every time you're late or miss payments it's recorded. If you don't pay for months then the original debt (say from September) keeps being noted at 4 months overdue, Octobers is 3 months etc and those numbers go up til you've paid it up.

Happened to me with Orange years ago...I couldn't even get a savings account after that!

Still love you though babes lol
It gets cut off and you may find bailiffs at his door...If you do get bailiffs just don't answer the door - As by law whenever they are in your house they are allowed to take anything upto the auction sale price of what is owed but they are not allowed to force entry...So just don't open the door because if they put one foot inside your door then they are allowed to force past you and take what they want.
