The Student Room Group
Pros:

The accomodation is generally up to a good standard, even the "ghetto block" (Christopher, where I live) is supposed to be getting renovated over the summer.

The vast majority of rooms are single rooms

Great bar, getting renovated over this Christmas, and also now the Undercroft is open for a range of events including Full Collapse, an alternative music night every other Friday

Fantastic burger van situated just outside the bar when you need something to keep you going for the walk from the bar to town

The only college (as far as I know) that celebrates Freshers' Fortnight, instead of just Freshers' Week

Great social calendar all year long, including a fantastic Christmas Ball and a reputedly even better Summer Ball and College Day.

Formals are spaced out enough that you don't get bored of them, but often enough so that you don't have to wait too long for one. (About once a fortnight)

Great college sports facilities, also situtated very close the Racecourse and Maiden Castle (Uni sport facilities)

Great reputation for sports, although don't let this put you off if you aren't sporty, I'm not in the slightest and I love it here

Really not as far away as people think, less than 10 minutes to Elvet Riverside.

Nice old buildings (well, apart from Christopher) in scenic grounds, much pretty than some of the ugly hill colleges.

A few music practice rooms

Cons

Not very conveniently situated for the Science Site

No shop in college

I'm sure someone from another college would give you our Cons better than me...

There's a ghetto block?

What's the tennis like? thanks btw
It's not really a ghetto block, we just call it that, its just the worst of the blocks but its really not that bad, could just do with a bit of a renovation, but like I said, it should be done over the summer anyway.

Erm, I really don't know about tennis, I'm not the most sporty person, although I can tell you that the SRC just put through a motion to buy new nets for the tennis courts...
Its not really that far away from the science site, 15 mins max

And once again must commend the godly burger van. Its awesome!!

With the size of Hild Bede, that figure could change quite easily depending on where you get a room! If you live up on Gilesgate hill on that end you're looking at minimum of 20min walk to the Science Site!

True, i forgot that not all the hild bede rooms are near the main college building
Apparently the college are selling off some of the out-houses next year though, so there will be less rooms outside of college grounds, although to be fair that could just be rumours...
Hild Bede is a bit of a trek, but does have Full Collapse (if you like that kinda music) and good sporting facilities.

To be fair, if you're a linguist or something else where you'll have pretty much everything in Elvet Riverside (or an Education student!) then Hild Bede really isn't a trek!
Doing law all my lectures are in Elvet Riverside or the Education Department, so it's perfect for me, especially when my 9.00am Monday lecture is in the Education department, approximately 2 minutes walk from my bed.

It's less of a trek than say, Castle (esp. Moatside) or Hatfield (esp. Palmers Garth).

As must I for providing very bad but very tasty junk food, which is always needed after a night of skanking and moshing at Full Collapse. Hmm Onion Rings!!

Hild Bede is not that far away from town as i live five seconds over the footbridge from it(well i may be exagerrating a tad, but not by much) and it takes ten minutes walk at most from my house to get into town.

Also you are very close to the Woodman, which is one of the best pubs in Durham if you like any form of real ale(there are often six pumps on!). It also has a pool table and is mainly non smoking, so that's a bonus I find.

It's also close to Gilesgate shops, well the only one really worth mentioning is Kwik Save!

 You're obviously not a true Kwik Save lover if you don't know Simon!!!

I know people from other colleges who live in Gilesgate and they all know him!

He works in Kwik Save, he's a complete idiot though, looks like an idiot and wears weird glasses lol (you have to see to understand). He's mostly on the checkout and gives you really weird looks and says weird things (like if you're getting some bread he'll be like "Need a bit of toast did you??" - but like dead serious)....then he sometimes gets very confused with the part about giving you change even though the screen tells him how much to give you, he sometimes doesn't believe it and gives you a different amount (regularly more than you should get!). And at the end of the transaction, his "phrase" is "There's your change aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand your receipt."

He mostly works in the evenings, so if you go before 4pm you probably won't see him

He sounds like the equivalent of Gary from Carlisle Little Chef! He's just like the squeaky voiced teen off the Simpsons!
