Physical BRAIN PAINS- Urgent

Hi all,

since the newyear i have been experiancing pains on the top right side of my head. These pains occur only on one side of the 'brain' and last 20 mins, then re appear every 30 mins.

I assumed it was pre stress because i have mocks this week, however whilst in the first set of my mocks i have experianced these pains, and i am unable to concentrate in the exam. Recentley teh pains have been so severe i cant go asleep, yesterday i only had 5 hours sleep and during teh day had to complete 3 exams lasting 2 hours each. I can understand exam stress but im sure physical pains are not that common.

Ive got past the last few days with barely and sleep and excrutiating pain, even now as i type its like a knife piercing through my head. my question is: should i attend school tomorrow - ill miss 1 mock exam but i cant resit this the next day i return.

Well it is not your brain hurting, the brain cannot sense. You say it is one side therefore it maybe a litle increase in pressure or reduced blood flow to the area.

Do you sense the pain "deep inside your head" or superficially?

I would definitely not go to school and go to the doctors in the morning. Your health is more important than mocks!

It is possible by the pain you describe that you have an "ice pick" headache: http://headaches.about.com/od/otherheadpain/a/ice_picks.htm

However, you say that the pain lasts for 20-30 minutes, so perhaps you should see a doctor. Meanwhile, here is another useful website http://www.headache-help.org/headachecatagories.html

i sense/feel the pain DEEP INSIDE my head, not on teh outside, as if theres something trying to break thru from teh inside, ver very painful, parectamol isnt doing the trick

More sleep, more water, mild analgesics (paracetomol, para/codeine, ibuprofen - containing drugs)

Only you can decide whether the pain is so severe that you can't face the exam. However, I would advice you to go and see a doctor about these headaches as soon as possible - they sound pretty debilitating, and the doctor should be able to find out the cause and prescribe something to alleviate the pain.

Thanks 4 the link. Yes my symtoms do resemble those of an 'ice pack' headache, however the timelength and frequency of these pains is disturbing. I had spent most of my day doing final revision check for my papers 2moro, and i dont want it to be for nothing. Im going to try and do the paper, however if i fail to get another night of sufficient sleep due to the pains i will let the school know and go to the doctors during the day.

Sugar and alcohol overload from the festive season I reckon.

I've got brain pains right this second..... top right side of my head... weird huh

They're more stabbing pains than a long kinda pain.

Doesn't really bother me

I have something similar...ish. For the last 14 days I've had a constant headache; it's worse in the mornings, and it feels like my brain's trying to escape. I feel dizzy in the afternoons, and headache tablets do nothing, and sleeping does nothing.

I don't want to wake up feeling the same anymore. :frown:

It's definitely not alcohol-related because I've never had alcohol in my life, and I'm not dehydrated because I drink loaaads.

See a doctor? Could be migraine or something else, and they'll be able to give you other medications to try.
You have a tamarian brain slug, probably caught whilst you were abducted.
seriously,
inside your head? That's very odd, since your brain, as quite rightly pointed out, cannot feel pain so to speak. My guess.. it's psychosemetic, brought on by exam stress. but you should go see a quack just in case.

I have been told by a friend to see a doctor... but I haven't been to the doctor's since I was about 7 and I don't know what they'll think of someone coming in with a 'headache'. I don't want them to think I'm wasting their time, if that makes sense.

Dont worry about that mate, they get bloody idiots in there who book appointments EVERY WEEK, just incase they get sick... and they wonder why the NHS is blocked up
My freinds sister in her 20's felt somthing like this, turns out it was a brain tumour.

I'd recommend going to the doctors asap.

Maybe so, I know that feeling, but a "headache" can sometimes be a symptom of something more serious in general, so it's not as if they'll send you off home with placebos straight away.
