Walking Straight

Yes I seem to have a problem with walking upright and am always hunched over and my neck sticks out. My parents used to tell me all the time about this but I think they've given up. I think part of the problem is I've got so used to walking like this that I don't notice it anymore, but I've just seen some pictures and I look kinda awkward.

So does anyone have any tips on how I can consciously eradicate this, and look normal again. I think I've forgotten how to walk lol. (and it's not limited to walking either; sometimes when I'm sitting/standing as well). Has anyone experienced this themselves?

Thanks!!

No I have not but you could see a doctor they may recommend you to a specialist but they may say its nothing try walking upright and not hunching then'll you get used to walking straight
It's all in the muscles.
Don't wear a back brace or anything. You need to pay good money to see someone who is good at Pilates/Alexander Technique to sort you.
Don't take advice off people hear I suggest you go and do the research on posture yourself. They back is a vital part of your body.

Suggest sooner rather than later as your spine may have fused like that (depending on how old you are)

I used to hunch over a bit until someone told me to imagine, when I walked, that I was being held straight upright by a string attached to the top of my head! At first I had to work really really hard at remembering, but soon enough it became habit and now I tend to walk very straight. [Although a good pair of heels and a corset tends to help as well, ha ha.] Basically you need to consciously work at it until it becomes second nature.

roll your shoulders forward, then roll them backwards in the greatest range of motion you can, stop at the pint they are fairly level and slight back, your chest should stick out a little.

Btw, you mean walking upright, not staight... I thought you had a problem walking in a straight line, my advice would have been to lay off the happy juice.

Put a stick down the back of your trousers when you're walking round your house?
Pilates will really help, especially if you get it at a proper studio (it is expensive but much better)

My dad always said "Shoudlers back and boobs out", cos I am tall and he hated seeing me stooped. So pretend like you're trying to get your shoulder blades to hit at your back.

I'm guilty of this too. I tried alexander technique, the first time it was ok, second time i went back a few years later it sucked and there's too much to think about. I was ok when standing, but when i started to walk there was too much to concentrate on. I just try and pay more attention to it now and think i'll start going to the gym to get my abdomen stronger.

Get a plank of wood and strap it to your back. They used to do it in Victorian times I think. Or do the sane things and try and think about it a bit, Go for a walk and concentrate on walking straight! Probably useless advice...
On the internet the other day, I read that there are certain exercises you can do with dumbells to loosen your muscles up and get your posture straight. Try a google search

start lifting weights, if you lift properly this should erradicate any hunching problems. you may end up walking like youve got a cock up your arse, but thats a different matter.

you could have a spine curvature. My sister has scoliosis and it affects her posture, so you might wanna see a doctor if you have problems even consciously standing up straight.
