Chest Pains

For a while now on and off i have been getting pains in my chest which last for a few seconds, hurt and make me feel like i cant breath. I went to the doctors and she checked my heart and said everything sounds ok. She did blood tests to check my haemaglobin count and they came back fine. I was also booked in for an appointment to have my heart tracked but that took months to get the appointment and by that time i was at uni. Im still getting this pain on and off and i have this gut feeling something isnt right. Should i go to my new doctors and ask to have my heart tracked? I get so frightened when it happens..
thnx

Ive had that for ages. you have to breath so "shallow" is the only word i can describe it for a while then its ok.
If you're really that worried, go see your new gp

I have had that sometimes after eating meals? I think mines brought on by eating too fast though.

could it be asthma? when i had asthma attacks i used to feel pain in my chest and it felt as if someone was sitting on it and it felt tighter. You could jot down in a diary when the pains happen and what you had been doing when they happened so that for example if it happens after eating it could just be bad heartburn or after exercise it could be asthma or something similar? i would also suggest internet research into medical problems which consist of chest pain?

Just a side question..when you have astma do you have some days/night/whatever when you cant really catch your breath and it feels like you have to breath in deeply all the time to feel anything?
Cos i think i might have astma because i get that a lot but I dont want to ask the Dr unless I have to.

well i used to have quite bad asthma but ive grown out of it. i havent used an inhaler for years. but yeh i sometimes get that at night where i feel like i need to breathe in deeply to catch my breath. im not sure if it is a side effect of my asthma though because i havent got any other breathing difficulties. However, if it happens often id visit the doctor just in case. Its worth speaking to the Dr if its bothering you because then he can prescribe you with an inhaler if needed which is an instant help when you feel a bit wheezy.

I have this. Been checked for asthma, was asthmatic...now not but using my blue reliever does stop the pain a bit but not all the time. It's very scary :frown: I went to A+E once as I had the pains then a panic attack and it was all too much for me. I think mine might be to do with overbreathing, which can literally just be because you feel like you can't breathe so you breathe too much which causes tension.

i have asthma and it happens to me every now and then:frown:
i have the same problem as you.

going to have an ultrasound, heart tracing and ECG 2moz.

quite worried, never had them before but if it gets my very bad pains sorted i'll be happy.

i would go to the new docs asap, my appointment took like nearly 9 months to go through! argh! (and i was urgent...!)

good luck xx
i have the exact same thing i think
i went to my doctor way back & he said it was because of my anaemia.

i never realised how many people experienced the same sort of problems... i thought i was the only one. This has relieved me in a way... i will go doctors asap!

This has really comforted me too actually, to know there are others out there who also don't know why the pains happen.

Yes if you overbreathe, it messes up the pH of your blood, shutting down your breathing system (temporarily).
Well im not doctor but if you've seen one of these recently, then i'd start to panic.
i have the same thing, always put it down to heart burn, but i really never thought it was. got it so badly the morning after boxing day i thought i was going to have to go to the hospital, i couldnt sit up without it hurting. i cant see how it would be asthma coz i cud still breathe fine, so glad im not the only one!

I get them too (have for ages) and also know of a few other people who do. One friend went to the doctor but I don't think they really knew what was wrong. I am also sort of relieved to hear of others getting them.
