economics..... still waiting

I've applied for economics L100 at UCL and so far have heard nothing - my UCAS went on the 13th October... and now UCL is the only one I'm waiting for...

I've got 3A* 6A 1B at GCSE, AAAAA at AS Level, predicted AAAA at A2 (maths, geog, economics, gen. studies + biology at AS, also doing 2 extra AS this year - further maths and critical thinking).
Am I going to be rejected....? anyone in a similar situation/ any idea what's going on...?

--------------
Cambridge - unsuccessful
UCL - ????
Bath - AAB
Bristol - AAA
York - AAB
Manchester - BBB

Just give 'em a bit of time...

I have a pretty good idea of what is going on... I know that the remaining offers will go to students who attend open days when invited that are on Feb 1st, Feb 22nd and March 15th.

If you just want to check that your application has been received by them, you should call up Dr Malcolm Pemberton or Miss Julie Everett (she's probably your best bet).

Dr Pemberton is best reached from 11.30am to 12.30pm on Thursdays and Miss Everett is a little random (in comparison)

I have no idea if you'll be rejected on the basis of grades as they look fine (for the most part, CGSEs are a bit flakey but I know at UCL for Economics, GCSEs don't have a heavy weight because the feeling is that they do not accurately reflect your current academic ability or potential).

Feel free to send me a copy of your PS via PM if you want me to have browse and give you a better idea of what might happen. I'm a second year L100 at UCL and as students go, you probably won't find one that knows the application process better.

President Ben,

I have applied for Maths with Eco @ UCL, and am in a similar position of no reply.

my gcse grades were 5A*'s, and 6A's.
AS grades were AAAA
A2 predicted is AAA, and I am doing an AS in further maths this year....

the open day dates are not too far off now, so should i email/phone them now, or wait?

I was thinking of waiting till next friday.........

wat do u say?
Maths with Economics is handled by the Mathematics department (it is after all a 75% Mathematics course) so I don't really know that much about it. Sorry!

I would still call them, it's not a problem - and since most of UCL is not starting teaching until next week, this is best week to call them.

hey ben,

wat should i exactly ask them?

whats going on with my application?
have i been rejected/accepted?

hellllllp!
I'm doing straight Mathematics at UCL, but a couple of my friends are doing Maths with Econ, and they both didn't get their offers from UCL till very late January/early February, so I wouldn't worry about it. Hope that comforts you, and that you now know that's not unusual to not have heard anything as of yet.

no worries - it's natural for people to worry, especially when they see all of their friends receiving their offers and feel a little left out/worried about it. universities tend to send out offers in batches, and i guess what 'batch' your offer is in might depend on when you applied.

At latest - a couple weeks before it takes place.

I think most (if not all) the invites for Feb 1st have been made. Nov 30th was the first open day and has obviously passed. I'd of thought Feb 22nd should be going pretty soon.

Only about 375 or so open day invites were sent last year. This year, things seem to have changed very slightly since some people got interviewed.

The course is meant to be for about 150 people (but recent history suggests too many offers have been given out since the L100 this year is about 160... an error of 7% is considered pretty big).

Obviously some offers go out to international students, mature students (not many of them though) and "gappers" who have all their grades (not many of them either since top up fees pretty much meant they would all apply to avoid them).

Ben, do they have open days for econmics and stats aswell, or do they have interviews? also, do gap year students normally get interviewed or invited to open days?

Gappers with grades don't need to attend. Most other gappers don't need to either - but they invite for a laugh. I remember meeting a gapper on one of the open days last year so some of them do come...

Econ and Stats is for admissions handled by the Stats department so I'm not sure.

I am an international...
I applied 9th december...
when can I expect a decision?

I don't have any decisions yet from any uni's... except a rejection from cambridge
Internationals - it'll vary. There's no hard and fast rule.

People who have received for the 22nd... you'll get an offer if you attend.

Just March 15th left then...
