Which is more socially acceptable?

A guy to cheat on his girlfriend or a girlfriend to cheat on her boyfriend?

I'm not saying it is right to do so (just so you over emotional haters can get off my back)...

In my opinion I think cheating is preferable because at a primative and sexual level the male is trying to impregnate as many females as possible to spread his genes far and wide to continue the species...

It is not desirible for the female on the otherhand to have many sexual partners as only the sperm of one can impregnate. A man cen be the father to many children via many females but a female can only be a mother every 9 months by one man....

Do you think it is fair that it is more acceptable for a man to cheat?... or do you acknowledge the reasons...

Neither is acceptable, and stop posting these threads.

Oh, and using the evolutionary argument to say that one is more socially acceptable than the other doesn't work - evolution is not the same as social acceptance. It is evolutionarily preferable for us not to care for people with genetic disorders; does that make it socially acceptable for us not to?

I don't suppose it is fair. I haven't really thought about it in depth though.

Don't be so harsh, It's a very reasonable question.

I'd probably have to say men.

Excuse you, what do you mean "these threads"?... This thread does not violate any TSR rules. I am asking a question related to health and relationships...

I mean this continual stream of threads asking for people's moral judgments on certain things, in which you're always slightly sexist and only rely on evolution and the status quo to argue your case.

Not the end of actually... please continue the discussion.

No, it's the end of my opinion. Why should it be ok for one sex to cheat but not the other? I accept the biological argument that men are more likely to want to but that doesn't mean that it's ok for them to do so.

I was actually going to say the opposite actually - women are more likely to be really destroyed by their other half having slept with someone else; some men wouldn't be so torn apart (lots would go mad with jealousy though.)

In my book, neither should do it at all. End of.

Saying that though, I think women are just as likely to do it as men are.
Neither is, nor should be socially acceptable.

Theres plenty of men and women out there who have no respect for their partners, they are all as bad as each other.

Agree: Neither should do it. But, I'd say it's more socially acceptable for a man to cheat! It's considered to be a fairly common phenomenon, and I personally believe more women would forgive adulterous men than vice versa.

I think by Indus1986 saying that he's actually trying to do exactly the opposite........

Is the forgiveness due to social reasons though (they think men are more likely to cheat so they don't mind if they do), or personal emotional ones (they don't want to lose this man even if they can't trust them any more?)

I could argue either way on the overall social view though - personal responses to it are different.

I agree with the above. This topic is likely to end in an argument. If you want a controversial debate about society then go to D&D.
