Lock jaw......?!?!

hi, i have a slightly random problem, but its really annoying!! Occasionaly my jaw on the left side gets stuck so i cant open my mouth more than an inch without it really hurting, and only when i push really hard does my jaw 'click' back into place..............does anyone else have this?! (when i say occasionally happens, its actually only happened during sex/-related stuff- maybe its coz ive overstretched my jaw?! thanks for any help!
sounds like you sprain a muscle by overextending it. Just don't open so wide and drink some high energy drinks if you're planning on any "action". Should help.

I have the same problem, but nothing to do with sex, for the last few years its just been like that....its really painfull, I have an hospital appt. 4 it nxt month......might require surgery actually.
My sister has had a locked jaw for quite some time now!
i think it's been about 4-5 months now. but hers is much more serious i'd say.

it got quite bad at one time. she even went to hospital but they really did say "we don't know - there doesn't seem to be anything wrong" she got transferred to some other place, but in the meantime, she has to wear one of them things (*forgets the word* - one of them things that rugby players wear - grrr...whats it called?!?!)

anyway she's waiting to have it checked out by some pro... and one thing that bloody annoys me when she sneezes like a freaking freak.... grrr!! it does my ears in!
I get it all the time, especially just when I wake up in the morning or eating Kettle Chips, I have to punch my jaw sometimes to get it to go back!

I was going to post a my own thread about this, thanks for doing so!

I have the exact same problem, and it's scaring me to bits. I don't know how it happened but one day I woke up with a locked jaw- on the left side, and couldn't open my mouth. I didn't want to force it cause I was petrified I'd dislocate it or something and have a hanging jaw.
It's horrible, I often get it when I wake up, & sometimes randomly during the day. I thought it was one of those things that would disappear, but it's probably more serious than that. When it does lock, i kind of try to ease it side to side to get the bone moving again & I wait for a few minutes. I'm too scared just to punch it.
I should probably visit my GP, but I really do not want to have surgery for this, not only am I scared but who knows what the outcome would be? :frown:

What would you recommend to solve this problem?

Yes, I have this every morning and i have to shift my lower jaw to click it back in after sleeping on it. Doctors just said i have to live with it!

My mum's jaw also kept randomly locking and sometimes 'clicking'. Went to doctor and it was arthritis combined with some other things. She's now had to have her jaw joints replaced. Please go and see a doctor, it can sometimes be more serious than you think.
this happened to me for about 2 years, it obviously wasnt locked for that long.
its almost completely gone now, you can adjust your jaw to when you go to sleep so that its not on the locked side. do this and it goes away quite quickly. also avoid clicking your jaw as this makes it worse.

dont think you ned to see a doc or anything. they will probably giv you some jaw exercises i think. it goes away and its not sex related as some 1 mentioned earlier.
