Eating Disorder/Feeling ill

I've had bulimia for about six years, on and off, but mostly on. Recently I've been getting chest pains when I'm sick, and stomach pains, although the stomach pains could be lack of food maybe? I also take laxatives sometimes, and the last couple times I took them they didn't work, it might be that I didn't take enough, but now I'm worried that my body just isn't processing them any more (and hence not processing my contraceptive pill, and meaning I could get pregnant). Or I might have got used to them?

I've got this horrible image of all my organs shutting down and me dropping dead.

My boyfriend says the chest pains are heartburn from the acid. Can the oesophagus dissolve like teeth? I have had two fillings so far due to being sick (I assume, although the dentist said it was cos I ate too much sugar) and I have to get another one.

What damage have I done to myself and is there anyway I can fix it?

The worst thing of all is, I'm not even thin (seriously, BMI is 23.8). To anyone who is thinking of EDs, don't, just don't.

Are there any people out there who have been to the doctors? What happens? How do they fix you and how long does it take?

If you can answer any of the questions please please do, I'm really worried.

A distant relative of mine has bulimia. She doesn't have long to live, she doesn't think she has a problem.
She has been in hospital for a year now and is force fed through a tube, but she just brings it back up again. She was allowed out of hospital for 1 hour on Christmas Day to see her family (but was followed around by her nurse). It is very sad, and there isn't any hope for her. She is not willing to get better as she doesn't believe she needs to eat (she thinks she is fat). She weighs around 4 stone.

However, you have a chance - you know you have a problem and so you can fix it before it gets too late. Go and see your doctor.
Didn't you say in the other thread you were 5'11 and 8 stone, because that BMI is waaaay off, nowhere near 23.8.

The fact that you know you have a problem is the first step to getting it fixed. But you have to know this: the ONLY way of ending all these symptoms and problems is to STOP. I can't make it any more specific than that. If you realise yourself that you are 'not seriously thin' then surely it would indicate that this approach is really not working? A good diet and plenty of exercise will slim you AND tone you - and you'll feel much much better as well. I realise that you're unlikely to give it all up overnight on the strength of this post but maybe it'll help you get motivated into finding some help and tackling a problem which - credit to you - you've already identified.

Good luck.

Sometime I think this is nature's way of getting rid of people who cannot cope with life. Survival of the fittest in the modern era.

Never say things like that, its awful!!

If that is the persons correct height/weight then her BMI is actually 15.6 which is underweight. I used this site to calculate the BMI but I don't know how accuate it is. I tested it with my own weight/height and I think it was correct. http://www.1728.com/bmi.htm Btw I'm pretty sure according to the DSM you don't have to be underweight to have an eating disorder.

Either way the person should see a doctor. Also I don't think relying on the contraceptive pill while using laxatives is a good idea! Use back up contraception and discuss it with your doctor.

There are no tigers and lions in the jungles to eat us anymore.
But evolution continues to work by winnowing us out through suicide, drug use, smoking, driving too fast and mental illnesses including eating disorders.

I'm about 5'6 1/2 (the 1/2 makes all the difference  ) and from 10 st 4 to 10 st 8 depending what I've ate and the time of the month. I've lost a bit of weight, gone from over 11 st  I blame exam stress. So my BMI is nearer the fat end than the thin end.
Oh, it must have been a different Anonymous. It's gets confusing :P

I have had ED, but I have been okay now for the past 4 years. I got counselling and therapy and was sent away to a recoverey homw. I am happy now but I do sometimes have this nagging feeling in the back of my head that says am fat, but anytime I want to do something abt it, I remeber the time that I almost lost my sight due to the fact that I had gone to phuck and the nerve in my eyes bursted because of the strain I was putting on my body. I think you need to take to someone.

I've learnt quite a lot about bulimia in psychology and ive watched quite a few videos about it.

- Your osophegous (cant spell it) can burst and if it does burst it can kill you. In this video, a womans osophegous burst. Its caused by being sick so much, something to do with the acid.

- Your organs can shut down I think.

If you feel strong enough, I think you should go to the doctors. They will probably refer you to a counsellor or to an inpatient unit. It will help, but only if you feel ready. Its the kind of thing you have to do because you want to and you feel ready. If people push you to do it then it wont work.

I know I dont know you, and you dont know me.. but please please please go to the doctors.

I wish you all the luck in the world
