I got offered a place there instead of Hatfield. Have declined it. Got a letter from the principal the other day telling me they are going co-ed from next september but will still have some all-female accomodation.

Is that sept 04 or sept 05?

I got put in an all girls' college at Durham, which is so annoying should I wish to go there (unlikely but possible)

Has anyone else been offered a place there and thinking of taking it up? Or alternatively is anyone there right now that could tell me about it?

My sister is at Durham and she informs me that Mary's is definately going mixed sex next year

I thought u were going to University College, Durham?

Right, can't help you with Mary's specifically, but women's colleges are really not as bad as you might first think. Here there are men around pretty much all the time during the day and we have plenty of social events joint with other colleges. I am taught by men, there are men in my lectures, around the libraries, and across the university in general. But the great thing is if you want to walk around your accomodation block dressed in a towel, however, no-one cares. In Durham I would imagine the colleges are even less individual because they are more centrally controlled so it's going to be even less of a problem. In my mind, rejecting a university which you would otherwise have gone to just because you've been put in a single sex college is a bit immature.
I'm at Mary's, applied to Hatfield but was turned away - I was obviously just too good for them, lol. Didn't want me to shame the rest of them... hehe, honestly tho, Mary's is ok. If you look past the all-girls thing (has its advantages anyway, believe me!!) it has better accommodation than most, the food is identifiable, and location is great. 7mins from town &main lecture halls, 15mins from Education library and lecture halls, and 2mins from main library.

Sorry to sound like a brain-washed Mary's eedgit - but it really does grow on you if you give it a chance  Besides, I'm Senior Freshers' rep next year - hehe, not a biased opinion (of course) but this year's Freshers' Week at Mary's will be one of the best *ever*...

I have a friend in her second year at St Mary's and she loves it. I've been up there and the buildings look very nice and the view is brilliant. She's never short of male attention either
