skiing is theeeeee best thing ever! Its not tooo hard but you do fall over a fair bit when you first start. If you get some lessons or go with someone experienced it will be great. I went for the first time when I was 12 and was doing some of the more easy blue runs after 3/4days.

I want to go skiing soooooo much!!

Wow sounds great then! We are just checking out some prices as it seems it might turn out to be quite expensive!
What area did you go to do you know?

Ive been three times and strangely i went to the same place everytime, its in Maine, USA. Buut this year i may be going to Val d'Isère in France its meant to be good there.

I go skiing in France and Scotland often and I must say that I taught myself to ski for a few years and couldn't get past a blue level, but one week in France I got a lesson every day for half the day and I was doing a 'double black' route and championship race tracks.
So an instructor is the best thing ever. In all respects, you need your wits about you and you will enjoy it, it's great.

Yes, yes, and yes!

Skiing *sigh* Really want to go again... Anyway...

Been three times with my school - 6 days, five hours skiing each time. I think. Might have been 5 days six hours :s:
Started off in beginner, ended up an expert. It's not too difficult, I'm accident prone (I can hurt myself doing almost anything) yet I went skiing three times and didn't hurt myself ONCE.
Been twice to Austria - Tirol region, Fügen, if anyone's heard of it/been there.
Third time went to the French/Swiss border (stayed in France, small place called Chatel - really nice place), absolutely amazing.

I'd recommend getting an instructor (I'm assuming you've never been before?), it's well worth it, you'll learn quickly, you're in safe hands, and you'll be with someone who knows the area and can speak the language (if you're in say, France or whatever).

To start off with you need to concentrate a lot - once you get the hang of it, it becomes completely natural. I picked it up easily though, so I'm not sure if that'll be the same for everyone.
Any more questions - feel free to ask

gemma.....
Hi guys. Me and my friends are thinking of going in Easter...so have any of you lot been skiing and did you enjoy it? Also is it really really difficult, 'cause I like challenges but wouldn't want to sit on the snow all week!

& If you did where did you go?

skiing is fun... hold onto your poles when you are going up the mountain on a chair lift... you drop em, and you have to ski down without one, and if it is your first time, it really knocks your confidence... :O

we have been for the past 10 years to this little village in Switzerland (by thwe frenh boarder) called morgin! Its great as there are runs for everybody! If your good you can even ski to a snow park in Avoriaz which is great fun! There are massive jumps and half pipes and you can also ski through tunnels and through woods 2! I really do advise it! There \are also lots of little bars in the village whioch are really nice too and the locals are really warming!

I am so envious of you, since I have only been skiing once and loved it so much that I want to go again, again, again, but alas cannot as my parents do not like "cold holidays" while the trip to go skiing from my school clashes with my school's French Exchange which I am obliged to go on!

I went skiing in Easter of 2003 to Valle D'Aosta, Italy and was a complete beginner, but managed to get the hang of things after a couple of hours on the mountains. I would recommend that you hire an instructor, due to the fact that they really help you out and enable you to reach your full potential. Our school hired a team of ski instructors from "Interski" and I must admit that they were great! It is difficult to begin with, especially to break, since you need to bring your ski's inwards at an angle, while lunching forward to place some weight onto your front. I can't really explain it, but when you first start doing it, it feels really weird.

Skiing for as many hours as you can per day is a MAJOR advantage, and I spent around seven hours per day (for seven days) skiing and felt that I did not have enough time at all, time flies by truly when you are having fun!

I do have a funny story about my skis being stolen on the first day and having to start skiing hours later than the rest of my classmates, resulting in being placed with a family to learn the basics, which was sooo embarassing as they had already started the lesson thirty minutes beforehand, resulting in me looking like an idiot, but thats one of "Stefans Skiing Stories" for another time children! :p:

Skiing is the best! - I go every year with my family, since I was 3...so quite good.

If you want to learn whilst you're there, maybe snowboarding could be worth a try? - its quicker to learn, easier to controll by miles! In my opinion, its no way as good, but when you're learning you're not gonna be after real speed anyhow, so they're both good.

France somewhere is good to learn, Les Arcs, La Plagne also.

No way! Snowboarding is much more difficult than skiing at first. It only gets easier later on.

I found it loads easier! - have you ever skated before?

I found that having two skis was way harder, just to stop them crossing was bad enough, let alone going in different directions at the same time!

If you're a skater, snowboarding's not hard to pick up, its getting used to moving sideways that I found hardest.

Well, I've been on a skateboard once. I could manage going straight downhill; I'm an expert. Skiing is much easier for the unskilled in skateboarding. Snowboarding gives me a bruised ass.

I do want to learn how to skateboard though--at age 19--because it makes getting across campus so much easier.
