Is being pooled from Girton a rejection?

OK so I think this a question which has been on the minds of myself and the others who have been pooled from girton- I personally applied for economics and was pooled, Iwould love an offer but as I was pooled from "Girton" does it mean its an effective rejection? I mean I know of 1 person (my brother) who was pooled from girton and got an offer (which was incidentally from girton!!!-and was 5 years ago and for medicine)....can anyone enlighten us girtonian pools of where we stand?

Am sure that anyone pooled from anywhere stands a decent chance at another college - just checked the Girton statistics and it seems they have got Economists into other colleges through the pool so there is of course always hope .

I have looked at the statistics but did not want to draw any conclusions from it. It seems that Girton likes to take pooled applicants from other colleges. Anyway, no one can tell what is happening in the Pool system this year.

So........Hoping for the Best, but always expecting the Worst.

All colleges have got other pupils into other colleges when pooled - even if it is just a few. Although admittedly certain pooled applicants have a stronger likelihood of being fished (such as pooled Law candidates from Downing where the competition is extremely strong) you still shouldn't count yourself out. Being pooled from Girton you still have a chance, as well as a chance to be fished back yourself.
I think Girton seems to be pooling the weaker applicants to see if there are any stronger applicants, and if there aren't they take the original applicants back. But I don't know really, that's just a guess.

OK the new rules suggest that colleges should pool the weaker applicants to see what else is available. Don't take that as making you sound bad, its just on paper you might not have seemed so good so they pooled you out and have a look around first

The other thing is that Girton wouldn't bother pooling if they didn't think you had a chance. Although other colleges may get a lot more people pooled there are no statistics as to what percentage of people are successfully pooled. Less people get put into the pool at girton than say trinity but its difficult to say what the success ratios are.
But as Musicbloke said earlier, the cambridge system is designed to make you a person, not a statistic.
Good luck

Yes, it's a rejection. They pool you as a joke.

Are "weaker" applicants the "weakest" applicants?? Weaker than what? If they are THAT weak surely they would have been outright rejected?

I think they meant the weaker of those they were considering giving an offer to?

I suspect you are right. However I hope that leannemann will expalin what she means, as we applied to the same place for the same subject and both got pooled!
In answer to your question, being pooled from anywhere is not a rejection. A rejection is a rejection. Besides, they wouldnt waste their time like that.

I think you should stop worrying that much now. There's nothing you can do really, just wait and see what happens.

well, i just got a call from girton asking me for an interview next week after being told by jesus in my letter that " we have carefully considered your application and all the information available to us concerning applications for your subject in the university, and we have concluded that your application cannot be taken further". that sounded like an outright rejection to me!!! im pleased now though, must have been pooled i guess, nice of them to tell me. perhaps im still to weak but at least i have another go.

I'm really happy for you. Good luck with the interviews next week!
Someone on TSR last year was pooled from Girton and got an offer from Emmanuel.

A friend of mine got pooled from Girton, he got received a phone call this morning informing him of an offer, which, coincidentally, was from Girton. The offer was to read Geography if you were wondering.
