Reasons for going on the Pill

I was having a conversation with a friend of mine the other day and, as girls do, we got to talking about our boyfriends. She's just split up with hers and is currently "in the market". I know she does have a tendency towards casual sex and she mentioned that this was the main reason she went on the Pill - so she "doesn't have to worry". However, I've always avoided going on the Pill because I'm very reluctant to take any kind of medication or hormone treatments that aren't necessary. I'd much rather use condoms - makes much more sense to me as I am only really comfortable sleeping with someone with whom I'm in a stable relationship.
Anyway, to get to the discussion -
If you or your partner is on the Pill, for what reason did you/they start it?

I started the pill for medical reasons, to balance my hormones so I dont have painful heavy periods, like I used to have. I started the pill when I was 15 and have been on it since.

Because I was having sex regularly with my boyfriend and didn't want to rely on condoms, and because the doc had previously suggested I go on the pill as my periods were extremely heavy and irregular but I didn't want unnecessary hormone treatment if I didn't absolutely have to have it. It killed 2 birds with one stone I guess.

Went on the pill when I was 16 because I didn't want to have to rely on condoms as my only method of contraception - wanted double protection. Have recently gone on the implant (3 months or so now) because I wanted something I could forget about for 3 years.

i have injections as an extra safety measure, but its easier becuase i can forget about it for 12 wks

I started to go on a version of the pill for my endometriosis.

I'm not in a relationship right now, so mostly to fix my bastard painful periods.

But while condoms are very good, they're not 100% reliable. So when I am doin' it again, it's just to be more sure. Like blissy says, double protection is always better.
We just didn't want to always have to use condoms. We knew we were both clean and wanted to experience sex without condoms! A bonus was that it made my periods much more regular. But we had a couple of scares when i forgot to take it and am now on the patch which i only have to remember once a week and is excellent!

I started taking the pill when I was 15 because of period pain and irregular periods, my doctor then suggested I take Dianette for my skin. Ive been using it for contraception since I was 17 with condoms for double protection.

I'm not on the pill due to the fact I'm male.. but my girlfriend is, we decided that we should use condoms and the pill for double protection, therefore if one method fails (unlikely) there is still alomost no chance of pregnancy.

Its all about keeping the odds well in your favour  thats what we think anyway, we think its the best way to avoid unwanetd pregnancy, well, that and not having sex
Went on it when I was 15 due to very irregular and heavy periods, but came off it recently to see if things have sorted themselves out!

Painful and irregular periods like many other people and for contraception. Which pill is everyone on? Mine is Microgynon 30. I also like being able to run 2 packs together, otherwise would have had a period whilst sailing through the North Sea on a tall ship, lol.

I started cos my periods were extremely heavy and really irregular too. It's sorted them out.
And if i start sleeping with someone i'd rather be on the pill and use condoms, so it'll have another use too.

1) condoms kind ruin the moment
2) condoms always split when i use them
3) you might not always have condoms available, and they are expensive

I originally went on it to sort out my skin and to help with my heavy, painful periods. I'm on Dianette. Now I use it as contraception because I/we don't use condoms - me and Craig have been together 2 years and are each other's firsts - And it works perfect for me. I've had no problems or anything.

Originally went on it because I was having periods every two weeks and was fed up. It's now also being used as a form of contraception, but we use condoms too.
Heavy periods.

Only it's caused me so many problems, I needn't have bothered. Microgynon 30 gave me migraines (I found out that it could then lead to bleeding on the brain). I can't go on any combined Pill because of it now (something to do with extra oestrogen). Neogest didn't work out for me and now, after going on Cerazette in August, I'm having heavy bleeding. I had spotting at first, then a few weeks later really heavy bleeding (not like a scanty period as it says on the packet, but heavy bleeding like I had before I went on the Pill!). I'm bleeding again, now, but this may be down to my antibiotics. I'm hoping it is, but if it isn't, I'm going to go back to the doctor again (either there's something wrong or it's Cerazette).

I've practically had three periods within a month, a month and a half. I'm not supposed to be ovulating on this one!

Condoms are good and I don't recommend not using them just because you are on the pill...as you can still get STIs. That is a big risk...I suggest being on the pill AND using a condom...As condoms are only 99.9% effective or something like that
I went on because I had heavy periods. Started on Microgynon 30 but it made me put on weight and gave me more spots. Now I'm on Yasmin which seems to be working perfectly fine.

I'm on the jab because I wanted double protection
