Overrated and underrated
Nicking this idea from the film forum, who do you think are some of the most overrated and underrated bands/artists around today?
For me;
Overrated - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Underrated - Tom McRae/Josh Ritter/Josh Rouse/All the other singer/songwriters that people who like Damien Rice and James Blunt would love if they just looked around a bit and opened their ears.

overrated: the beatles
overrated: pretty much anything popular amongst teenagers and casual listeners (all that NME crap, Green Day, Franz Ferdinand etc)
underrated: ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, The Prodigy, Sigur Ros, Aphex Twin, Venetian Snares, Death From Above 1979, drum and bass in general, Queens of the Stone Age and lots more...

'We Have Sound' - good album that, I caught the end of his set at T in the Park as well, great stuff.
'I Ain't Saying My Goodbyes' never fails to rock my face.
And yeah U2 are utter dross, Radiohead alright but definitely overrated (is it just me or is Kid A the only one of their albums that's any good?).

They are the finest live band around today and although the last album wasn't the best they are still a force in music. When you go to their gigs the crowd is really old, none of our ignorant generation know anything past the singles off The Fat of the Land.

venetian snares, enduser, kid606, dj speedranch, bong-ra, soundmurderer etc - all criminally underrated, just because they are vaguely non listener friendly at first.
overrated - most music described as anything more than 'average' by the press.
underrated - latterman, against me!, small brown bike, everything else on 'no idea' records, converge.

you need to listen to radiohead a hell of a lot before you can appreciate them fully. They're real growers, I found them nauseating at first. Vek is very good though, I agree with you on that one
