No problem, and feel free to PM me if you want to ask anything aswell
i am not sure but i'm sure if you rang alcoholics anonymous they would be able to get you the help you need or tell you where to find it. failing that you might want to try nhs direct or your gp?

You're half-way to taking that first step. Your GP should be your first point of contact. Just going to alcoholics anonymous won't cut it - and any therapy/counselling/rehab should originate from your GP.

well at least you have admitted you have a problem no make sure you get the right help. i dunno what to suggest howz bout your GP?
some of my friends who had drinking problems switched to shandy and beer with <0.5% alcohol and that worked. every time you feel like binging just binge on shandy

after the girl i like found out i got drunk once, i've never had more than a MAX of 8 units a day. usually i just have 2-4. and some days none at all. but a beer after college (2 units) is kinda nice.

lol at Spiral's advice.

Firstly, are you sure you have a drinking problem? How much do you drink, what do you drink and can you physically go a day without a drink?

Just out of curiosity, where do you get your alcohol from? It's just that at the age of 17 I'd presume shops wouldn't let you buy it, unless you look seriously old for your age.

i began drinking at forteen i think if i remember? well i was in year nine and i was getting drunk nearly every day and i got most my booze from home as we have sooo much duty free booze around here if a litre of vodka goes missing nonone notices. and recently ill drink in the morning on my own or when my mums out ill just have a bottle of wine alone. ive not drunk today which is wierd. ive ended up in hospital more than five times for being too drunk and had so many abulances out because i passed out at home last year too often but i never did anything about it. this is the first time ive told anyone all this apart from my mum knowing and my dad had an idea as he took me away on holiday to paris in aug i just ended up saying to him could i have an hour alone and all i did was drink vodka for two hours in a bar and he found me passed out in the street a few hours later when he went looking for me.

It took a lot of courage to post that.
Please, do yourself a favour and go to your GP. He/she will not laugh at you, if anything they'll respect the fact that you're adult enough to realise and admit you have a problem.
Whatever you do, do not try and "go it alone", it doesn't work. Your GP will be only too willing to help you.
I would hope that your parents would support you all the way with this. But it's something only you can do.
Go for it!!

People often use it to post 'serious', yet controvertial advice whilst trying to provoke a reaction.

I'd definitely suggest your GP. Different things work for different people and they will be able to show you your options.

Agreed, this is all the GP will recommend. It should be your first and last step. They are ridiculously organised and successful. I'll say it again, go to AA.

On a side note:
In many other countries I would be considered to have an alcohol problem. As would most of my friends. The difference however is that if I was in that country living with their culture I would only want to drink as much as the people around me (maybe a little more). It is a cultural/social thing. My point being that alcoholism is a subjective rather than an objective thing.

^^ are you for real?

What's wrong with my question? I'm 20, and look at least 20 (in fact from looking at me people are sometimes slightly surprised that I am that young), and I still get ID'd about a third of the time, both in supermarkets and pubs. Thus I was curious as to how the thread starter bought alcohol. Perhaps IDing is different in different areas of the country though.
