Hiya, at the moment i'm trying to book a language course in Seville and I came across this site that has reviews and recomendations for language schols form around the world including France. By the sounds of it, it only includes decent and accredited schools so it would be a good starting point. Its address is

http://www.languagecourse.net/

How long are you planing on spending out there. I was schocked how pricy how costly some of the tuition actually was but i've found quite a good deal now for about £250 for 2 weeks accomodation and 20 hours a week tuition. Most of th other places are almost double that.

From looking around, its cheeper to book a course directly with the school rather than an agent and it is also much cheaper to pay directly in euros if you can.

Thanks, that's really helpful! I know what you mean about the prices - it's bad enough having to save for university!

I'm thinking of staying for a month - expensive I know! I really want to make sure my (spoken) French is up to scratch for when I start uni in October!

What uni are you going to?
It'll do your confidence the world of good to have a head start sothe course will be a good investment even if you feel bitter paying out loads of money at the time

Most of my friends that are doing french and spanish think that there isn't much difference between the years standard of french because there arn't that many people that have spent a long period of time in France. most of them seemed to have concentrated on their spanish so in my year for spanish it generally varies from people that are fluent (after a gap year in a spanish speaking country) or post A-level students so htere is a huge difference.

Hopefully I'll be off to Cambridge if I get the grades! I'll be studying Russian ab initio, so I want to make sure my French is really good so that I can focus on it. It makes me feel a bit better to hear that I probably won't be the only one who isn't fluent though!

I've managed to find a relatively cheap Intensive course (£400) in Chambéry which looks beautiful - somewhere in the French Alps! Thanks for the link!

Hmm... everyone here just says "from scratch" lol. My friend started Russian from scratch and she is already amazing - she is one of the most intelligent people I've ever met though.

thats ok.

Its amazing how much progress you make really quickly when doing ab initio courses. I started Portuguese from scratch and i'm prefering it to spanish at the moment and can see myself being better in Portuguese than Spanish after the 4 years. Its also nice being in a class where pretty much everyone is on a level playing field (although they moved 3 people form my class at the start of teh year into the 4th year because they are already virtually fluent)

Well done on your Cambridge offer

I'm actually really looking forward to the Russian course - I'm sure it'll be a killer though! I was actually considering doing Portuguese for a while, that or Dutch, Icelandic or Polish! Somewhat random I know...

Blissy, how has your friend found the course (other than being brilliant at it)?
