Take your temperature, and if it's really high then try to cool down in a cold bath or something

Hi guys, its late here and ive been sick as a dog all day, now this fever has come on, im shaking like a rattlesnake, cold then bloody hot. I took some paracetamol but its not working, anythign you know can quick fix it so i can go to sleep and stop watchign this Inco doco on tv?

Aren't you supposed to 'feed a fever, starve a cold'? Whenever I have a fever I just curl up under two duvets after taking a couple of paracetemol, so that I get hot - after a couple of hours I start feeling better and would drift off to sleep. I don't advise taking a cold bath, because afterwards you'll get out, get dressed and curl up in bed where you'll get warm - such big temperature changes will only make you feel worse. Maybe you should just go to bed with a hot water bottle - I'm sure you'll feel better by the morning.

Oh yeah, my Dad's a doctor and he gave me this advice - it's what I've always done since I was little and it hasn't failed me yet. Anyhows, I hope you feel better soon.

Asprin is supposed to settle fevers isn't it? The book I'm reading centres around everyone getting fever and they all take asprin.

Aye, you're dead right on this one; the fever is part of the body's non-specific immune response. As such, you want to keep it up for a sustained period (unless it gets dangerously high) and the cold should pass quickly.
I'd even advise not taking the paracetamol if you've not got a headache.
chicken soup. works every time.

Chicken soup won't do anything for a fever, except maybe give you a little comfort as you're eating/drinking something hot.
