Getting out of bad sleeping patterns...

Hey there - anyone got any suggestions for getting out of a bad sleeping pattern, without having to stay up for ages and go to bed at a 'normal' time? All I really want is to be tired at 11 o clock and sleep tonight!! Problem is, I only just woke up after sleeping for 12 hours... I just feel so tired all the time!!

Student life seems to be taking its toll....

I did this in first year after living in a cell with blackout curtains and spending too much time in bed!!!!

Only way to do it is to be strict with yourself... dont eat more than a couple of hours before bed, have a bath and nice milky drink, read for a bit, then lights off at 11pm. Even if you cant sleep and its rubbish. Then force yourself to get up at 7am, no matter how tired you are, and no matter how dark and horrible it is outside. No alcohol for a few days either, it disurbs any sleep you do get.

Its not nice :frown: but its the only way thats ever worked for me.

After a few days you should have fallen back into a pattern.
Oh and exercise in the day - since I started exercising regularly I have gone from a poor sleeper, to having a really great quality of sleep

Good luck, I hope you feel better soon!!

I have very abnormal sleeping patterns, but if I ever need to get into a 'regular' routine, such as going to bed at 11pm and waking up at 7 or 8am, then I'd just go out in the afternoon/evening and do something that takes up a lot of energy (sale shopping is my excuse at this time of year! ), so that when I get in i'll be knackered and will fall asleep at a decent time. Hope that this helps - I'm off shopping!

Sleeping patterns are for pussys. Although i would reccomend turning off your PC because you seem to post on here alot at night, which is what happens to me alot.

Wake up at the time u want to every morning, and MAKE YOURSELF get out of bed and have a shower or something. Evenutally it'll catch up with u, and you'll need to sleep at 11.

--------------

Oh yeah, and try not to use your phone or computer an hour before u go to bed, technology keeps u awake!

Sleepeze 50mg from boots. Works wonders!
I've been having this problem too. I've tried the exercise thing - going to the gym to tire myself out and not drinking coffee after 6, but that didn't work. its cos i'm worrying about exams at the minute which is annoying.

I got some Nytol (same drug as sleepeze). Supposedly knocks you out in 20 mins, but 2.5 hours later i was still wide awake. Not sure what the next step is. I find it really hard to drag myself out of bed when my alarma goes off - my flats so cold!!

I might try Sominex if I still can't get my sleep pattern back, one of my tutors said that's miles better than nytol.

Do more activites in the day to make you more tired at night,
try just going to bed earlier and reading a book or something before you try going to sleep.

I want to go to bed earlier. I do intend to, but I never get round to it if you get what I mean, cos i'll be watching something or be on the internet or something. I have tried going to bed before 12 but it took forever to get to sleep so theres not much point. I need to go to bed earlier and get up earlier. x
