Fed up of IBS!

I have IBS which only usually affects me at morning times. I usually get sent home from school because i cannot concentrate in lessons. I have tried everything to try and stop it making me feel ill but none work, and my doctor hasn't gave me the right medication yet because he has not sent an appointment for me to see him so that he can actually give me them. What i need to know is is there anything i can do to possibly make myself feel better while i wait for this appointment to come?

The 'problem' with IBS is that no one really knows what causes it. There are theories that it's a physical manifestation of psychological issues (may be caused by neurotransmitter imbalances), there are others that think it is to do with food intollerances, a large subset of people with IBS have sex hormone deficencies, and there's a theroy that it's to do with microbiological overgrowth of normal intestinal flora.

AS no one knows the cause, and if might actually be a wide range specturm disease with many different causes presenting the same clinical picture in different people it is very hard to treat.

There's no harm in doing your own research and disscussing your findings with your GP. GP's do not know everything and are ususally quite receptive to people who take an interest in their own health...
There are some over the counter products that can help you. I personally like Minetc, I find that it really lessens my discomfort. Also you can take it before you get the pains and prevent them. Only bad thing about it is if you take it before bed you wake up in the morning with this really horrible peppermint taste in the back of your throat, but this can be prevented by taking it a couple of hours before you lie down.

Oh, also I find doing some exercise while I have the pains helps. I'm not sure if it just distracts me or whether it works to help stop the cramping but it works for me!
