St Edwards College has a great sixth form though you'll have to wear uniform, I went there for a week but left because I wanted to do some subjects they didn't offer.

I go to St. Edward's! It's a mixed school in Sandfield Park (West Derby). Some people who come to the 6th form as new pupils find it 'strict' due to the uniform and fact that you can't go outside of the campus during the day, although most agree it is a great place.

Although I'm doing arts subjects in Year 12, the science and maths departments are excellent

The facilities are also brilliant, with a recently refurbished common room. It has a similarly good reputation to Blue Coat.

There is entrance criteria, which I think includes an interview and getting reasonable GCSE grades, and it is predominately Catholic which sometimes plays a part in the application procedure. There is no exam though

Take a look at www.st-edwards.liverpool.sch.uk, and feel free to PM me for more info or advice.

Other than St. Eddie's, check out St. Mary's (in Crosby), Belvedere (if you're a girl!) and Liverpool College, as well as Blue Coat. Good luck!

in my area, its my school (sacred heart - mixed chuch funded) st marys (mixed private school) and merchant taylors (split gender private school)

Merchants is the best, one of the best in the country so i am told, st marys was always good, well they still are but my school is now considered to be better than them. We have had 3 new building built over the past 2 years, 2 of them being maths suites with a total of 8 rooms, 3 of which fully kitted out with computers and the other one is the biggest school sports hall in merseyside

becuase of our specialist status in Maths and IT we got alot of funding from the government, arch diocsis and personal investors. I think we have had an extra £4.5 million added to our school which is quite good. Although facilities in some areas are pritty lame, i cant compare to other schools becuase i havent been in many other schools, but some of the rooms could do with a makeover...they are usually the rooms the year 7's and 8;s use though

Hey, I'm in year 11, and I want to go on to do A levels in Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Physics next year but I'm not really sure which are the best schools or colleges to be looking at =/ I'd really like to go the the Blue Coat School but if I might not get in. Can anyone help me with suggestions of other places that are just as good or better than there for me to look at?
Thanks a lot, Helen

Belvedere if you wanna pay. But its non-paying in a year (2007) which is every good because I went there and got 10 A*s and then left and went to Blue Coat.

If you can hack an active social life and lotsa A2 work then Blue Coats fab. There's loadsa peeps who do that subject combo and they normally tried for Oxbridge. Its not difficult at all to get in. Go for it and if you get an interview, great. If not, you can still go to the school on the day you get your GCSE results and they have extra places for people who might still want to go there. Just take your statements along and then see how it goes.

St Eddys - i'm not an expert because I havent been but its good, as is Lpool College, but depends what you are after...social academic or both? Do you mind going to an all-girls?

I would try as many as possible and definitely Blue Coat.

Good luck!

I would suggest Childwall, we have good maths facilities (as I would know) and a lot of students do further maths and we have currently just won best physicist in Britain for sixth form thanks to Tom McIntyre, so for everyone else looking for a sixth form, maybe look childwall as an option
