sleep apnea?

i'm quite convinced my boyfriend has sleep apnea, i watched a programme on it recently and it seems to make sense

-firstly he needs to get about 12 hours sleep per day just to feel normal and is still usually very tired all the time [although he is on a high dosage of SSRIs (paroxetine) anti depressants so this might be causing his sleepyness.]

-he snores quite alot

-i have noticed that about once every 1-2 mins, sometimes more, sometimes less when he is asleep he starts snoring a little bit then does a bit bigger snore then seems to wake up a bit.

-also when he is sleeping he seems to constantly wake up a little bit every so often

-he never ever remembers waking up at all and always thinks hes slept soundly.

this doesn't happen all the time, but he has put on quite a bit of weight recently and i'm sure his snoring has got a lot worse (which is very annoying for me as we live together and have no alternative bed!), so maybe the sleep apnea has too- if that's what he has?

has anybody else experienced severe sleepyness whilst on SSRIs like paroxetine? do you think this could be the culprit?

any advice or thoughts would be very much appreciated.
also if anyone else has experienced this, it would be great to know how i could go about investigating this medically, and what the doctor might do etc.

thanks in advance,
mademoiselle

Does he know you watch him sleep? That's quite scary.

It doesn't sound like there's necessarily anything wrong, but if you're worried get him to go to a doctor about it.

you watch him too much...read a book

if you oversleep all the time you get the same symptoms

the tv can lie
It's probably not too much of a problem if he doesn't remember 'waking up a little bit' and it doesn't take him a long time to get back to sleep.
I think the bit about a 'bigger snore' waking him up a bit is normal, my boyfriend and friends seem to do that quite often. I think its more the noise that wakes them than change in breathing.
My boyfriend is on an SSRI too, but for anxiety. However the other people I've seen do it weren't. He needs less sleep than I do, lucky thing!

SSRI's can cause tiredness but it can depend on the person. For me, i had to sleep for around 12 hours a day and i was still tired. Coming off them made all the difference. Thats not always an option for everyone but i was well enough to come off them.
