How do you define a good career?

In terms of well paid careers then probably chem/bio as many times more people go into medicine, dentistry and chem/pharma/biotech sciences from these than maths students going onto accountancy or IB. This is all rather pointless though as a "good career" is a personal preference and people are perfectly capable of being successful (or unsuccessful) irrespective of the course choices they make.

A level maths

but it also depends what degree, A levels doesn't dictate much. But statistically people who do A level maths earn 10% more, or so I was told.

That can easily be explained by the fact that high achievers tend to do maths; low achievers tend to avoid it. Similarly private school students tend to do maths; state school students tend to avoid it.

Also if you do maths you are more likely to go into the supercalafragalistic brain drain that is banking.

On the other hand there is a massive shortage of maths teachers, which is not so well paid.

Anywho, if you are good at maths you should probably do A-level maths. It proves you are fairly clever and is useful for many careers. Don't think about it in terms of money: most interesting jobs are not that well paid. OTOH if you just want money there is always banking.

I agree, think outside the box, if only getting A/A*s at A level was a licence to print money!

these are based on statistics, if youre looking for money long term you should consider a particular career not just a-levels which bring good pay on average.

certain combinations are useful for some jobs.

maths physics history french would be good for law for example which is well payed

maths physics chemistry biology is also very academic but would limit you to more science based careers, but still well payed.

having maths and atleast 1 science will look good in terms of displaying how intelligent you are, assuming the grades are the same whatever your choices for subjects.

pick subjects you'll do well in thats more important as it will affect your grades>uni>job

and this right here is exactly why the forgotten subject of 'English' is needed too
