Ear problem

Right,I know I should probably go to the doctor regarding this problem(and I will do although he is patronising and grr...)but I just wondered if anyone had experienced the same thing/whether the two are linked.

A couple of years ago I went to Africa on holiday and on the last day I woke up with a really severe ear infection(so severe that I was crying in my sleep with pain).I was advised by another guest in the hotel that if I went to the doctor about it I would not be able to fly home,so I left it(I hadn't had a good trip...I didn't eat for two weeks through food poisoning either...)....and flew home the next day.

Ever since then I've had trouble hearing...sometimes I'll wake up and I'll be deaf in the ear that got infected and it will take a few days to return to normal.I sometimes have trouble hearing actual words that people are saying...I can hear them speaking but I can't make out the words....

Hmm,I just wondered if it is possible the two things are linked?I mean,I know they say don't fly with an ear infection, but surely the risk isn't that great?
Quite a lot of the time I can't hear out of my left ear if I have been sleeping on my side during the night. Really does my head in actually, probably need my ears shringing again.

Oh yes, that's another thing...sometimes I'll get a piercing, high pitched noise in my ears...only from time to time but it's not very comfortable!

I have an ear issue too, kind of like its blocked and only opens up some days, usually after i have been up for most of the day.
sound must be reduced at least 50% when its like that.

The high pitched noise you talk about, I get that as well, but I've been told that its basically too much music!

I've always had trouble with my ears since I had a really bad ear infection when I was about 6. Your problem might be related more to the actutal infection than the flying.

i always thought the hig pitched noise was the result of electronics, or electro-magnetics or something.
never had it too bad, but it is annoying sometimes

You were right, the only way to really know is by going to the Doctors.

Take your own advice..

Hmm maybe,I just remember the flight was not very nice,I cried on take off and landing and I ended up completely doped up on painkillers it was that sore:frown:Just wondered if I took the wrong decision by flying(my sister also had an ear infection earlier in the trip but she went to the doctor and they gave her an injection in the erm...rear end,lol)...

my sympathies...over the years ive had my ear drum burst about 4 times due to an infection - one of the times was in Germany and i had to fly back with it burst - one of the most painful things in the world.
the infection if not treated properly, will most likely have led to some hearing damage, but go to the doctors for a check up.
Go to the doctor, maybe your ears just need syringed.

On this topic, I have a cold at the moment and my ears area bit blocked, but I've had it for weeks and have started to not notice. Then sometimes they 'pop' and it's like "Holy crap... sound!".
