Help plzzzzzzzzzz quickly!!!!!!

ok here's some question i was baffled with....u'll need to read this bit to answer all the questions.

q1. Ali,Barry and Cindy each have a bag of counters. They do not know how many counters are in each bag. They know that..

Barry has two more counters than Ali.
Cindy has four times as many counters as Ali.

a) Ali calls the number of counters in her bag 'a'
write expressions using 'a' to show the number of counters in barry's bag and cindy's bag.

plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz i really need help can u explain to me what expressions i need 2 put in cindy's and barry's bag.??

--------------

b) Barry calls the number of counters in his bag 'b'. write the expressions using 'b' to show the number of counters in Ali's bag and Cindy's bag.

plzzzzzzzzzz help

I'm sure you can do the rest now.

[EDIT] Oops, made a mistake then, hope nobody noticed, guess it's not so easy.

c) cindy calls the number of counters in her bag 'c. write and expression for barry and ali.

c part 2: which of these expressions below shows the number of counters in barry's bag? tick the correct one:

4c+2, 4c-2, c/4 +2, c/4 - 2, c+2 / 4, c-2 /4

thank you, errrm i'm actually in yr8 and my teacher was away, so our substitute gave us this revision list to revise for tomorrow. thanks for your help. but can you help me with the answer to c) part one???

can anyone help me plzzzzzzzzzzzzz? coz i am finding this really hard... anyone ...help with c)part one above.?? your great help will be appreciated

The answer to c is c/4 -2, like I said, I thought it sounded like early KS3 stuff

Sorry, I was being thick, I've edited so it's right

You know that Cindy has four times the number of counters than Ali has so you just need to divide by four
Ali has c/4 counters.
You know that Barry has 2 more counters than Ali so Barry has (c/4) +2 counters.
If you can't find the answer then draw a picture of the situation.

How is it -2? Its supposed to be c/4 +2. Barry has more counters than Ali and Ali has c/4 counters.

thank you i understand now, but just this bit wasn't answered..

If you want the total number of counters that are in both Barry and Ali's bags then just add the two expressions

(c/4) +(c/4) +2= (c/2) +2
Reply 13
so is the number of counters in ali's bag: c/4
in barry's bag: c/4 +2

because i need them separately

--------------

??? coz on my sheet it has 2 bags one for ali and one for barry. so i need the expressions for each of them.

thank you so much. here's another question...

Q1. Here are six different equations, labelled A to F.
a. y=3x-4 b.y=4 c.x=-5 d. x+y=10 e. y=2x+1 f. y=x squared.

a) which graph goes through the point (0,0)?
b)which graph is parallel to the y-axis?
c)which graph is not a straight line?
d)which two graphs pass through the point(3,7)?

thanks a lot for the help..i am just stuck on this and i have attempted it.

--------------

but can u help me plz anyone..and go through it with me.

Have you tried to draw out the graphs of each of the equations? If not, try that first.
If you draw the graphs then you can easily work out parts a to c.
If not then try this method:
a) The graph has to go through (0,0) so put x=0 into each of the equations and see if it produces y=0
b) Best to draw out the graphs
c) You need to see if the equation is "linear". So are all the terms just numbers and x and y's? If there are other terms such as x squared then it is not linear. If it is linear then its a straight line
d) Use the method that I described for a

ok thanks, i've tried it and here are my answers.. can u tell me if i'm wrong or right?

a) graph f
b) graph c
c) graph b
d) graph d and e

Only part c is wrong. y=4 is parallel to the x-axis so it must be a straight line.
But all the other parts are right.
