Halls At Nottingham

hiya, i know there've been millions of threads on the topic of....accommodation!! But, as I've said in another thread which seems to be drifting away, it would be nice if someone from each hall could tell 2006 first years about their hall - facilities, food, comps, etc, etc. It would be nice to have the INFO all in one thread! thanks

so far (copying from the 'accomodation' thread):

exmoorkatie has said:

Willougby, all rooms are in one building, we dont have blocks!
Willoughby Single Rooms depends on whether you are in the old bit or the extension. Im in the old bit and on the top floor which was redecorated recently, there are 20 rooms on my floor i think and 3 toilets, 3 showers, and one shower/bath

maestroryu:
Lincoln Hall single room with communal bathroom info:

Lincoln hall is divided into blocks of 3 floors. Each floor gets a shower, a toilet and a bathtub and you share them with 5 other people on your floor. If your toilet is occupied, go up or down. It really isn't much of a problem. Anyway that's Lincoln Hall for you. I've seen other rooms from other halls but I feel mine is bigger.

...i clicked on the 'halls' link, but all it seems to be is a bit of (not much) info on each hall - mainly involving things like 'we have lots of parties' etc :s-smilie: is that what you were talking about?

I was in Ancaster last year - its mostly en suite. My corridoor had 17 en suite rooms and 3 rooms that shared a bathroom/toilet/shower. There were about 2 corridoors with about 20 rooms and a huge block of showers - but I never went there so not sure exactly. It was almost all in 1 building - with 1 very small newer block!
Rutland Hall has about 270 people in it, making it a medium size hall. It has a very strong hall spirit because nobody else likes Rutland! Karni is huge in Rutland and you can't really escape it without making a huge effort, lol. The rooms are a decent size, though not the biggest I've seen. It's divided into blocks in quite a confusing way, but K Block is a separate en suite block, also known as gay block... The food ranges from ok to awful

anyone else?

why does everyone say the food is really bad?! what does that mean...
It isn't always really bad. It just has its moments... I don't know about other halls, but while the salad bar was there, there was always refuge to be found in that, but ours has disappeared and turned into a few bowls with tomatoes in.
our salad bar has also dissapeared at dinner times, which annoys me!!
I think they are trying to make sure we all get a hot meal in this freezing winter we are going through.
My tea was actually really nice today, just to put a good word in for them, lol...

are there websites for other halls like the one in your sig for HSH?

There are a couple, but it depends on the hall in question whether they have one and whether they keep it up to date.

Ours is back (yippy), but yes generally food is rather dire, lunch can be rather fantastic, but tea can regually be missed.
Breackfast is the best, today we had porraige with sultanas and cinimon......yes real taste!!

Decide for yourself :

Jubilee Campus and Newark Hall

We probably have the best food out of all the other caterd halls.

"If Carlsberg made halls they’d have made Newark… Biggest and best hall in the uni, don’t listen to the main campus scum it’s all about Jubilee. With brand new bar and en-suit rooms, what more could you want. You lucky folks will get to sample the haute cuisine of the atrium… cough… cough. The servers however make up for the wood.
We unfortunately have to hare the atrium with the wannabe Newark hall… aka southwell, the smaller budget version. We Will do our best to make sure you have an amazing week and you get hammered every night. Get ready to chant your harts out."

Self catered accomadation just of campus, houses about 1000 freshers every year. (Also has postgrads in seperate blocks.)
Lenton and Wortley: I live in a block of 24, with 8 people on each floor and the floor is divided into two clusters of 4. Each cluster has 2 bathrooms which means their is one bathroom which 2 people share. Really nice atmosphere. I hate queing for dinner and i'm not keen on the food, but I wouldn't swap it as I just love hall life.......but not enough to stay next year. Private housing will be exciting, that is when we have it sorted.

That will be closer to 1500 when the new blocks open. That's the biggest contingent of Freshers in one Hall.
