I have encountered a lot of opposition to homosexuals (not gay myself though) but its largely kept under wraps. There do seem to be more homosexuals in Cambridge (particularly in the Conservative Association it seems!) then I've encountered elsewhere but maybe I've just led a sheltered life.

yeah i heard that there are more homosexuals in Cambridge- i spoke a couple of times to this gay guy that did chem-i think- in Cam and he told me that i would want to consider Cam more- he said the guys are cuter too in Cam.

In Oxford LGBT-soc is really active. There are loads of gay people around and OUSU has a really strong Queer Rights campaign. There are even a couple of gay club nights. Some colleges are more open to gays than others though, it seems. If I were you I'd make a special effort to avoid one with a name beginning with O and one beginning with W. I can't really say cos I might get lynched.

That's the same with Cambridge. As far as I know there only 2 gay people at my college.

My friend used to be a lesbian but thinking it was wrong she stopped so I think that figure which she gave me is probably accurate.

It really does depend on the college I think. But since you have so many other factors to take account of it would probably be unwise to choose a college on the basis of its reputation for attracting homosexuals.

am not choosing a college right now..is just being able to have a normal life is quite important.. where i live right now there is no chance of being able to have a normal life as gay person..One of the reasons I want to go to university abroad is to be able to hold hands with my bf in the streets without the fear of public humilitation
oh i did that but it was dark

To be honest, I don't think you can really get away with the holding hands in public thing unless you're in some kind of gay village, or you're at a pretty private party of people who know you.

I know one of the LGBT reps at Oxford. I don't know if he's gay though.

Dude, half the teachers at my school were 'possibilities' , bummer boys are ok, all dead sound in my experience. Infact Clitheroe's MP, Nigel Evans is a bummer boy, he is sound as.

Erm, Nigel Evans? Hmm, not too sure about that. Sounds like slanderous gossip to me.

Er no, he is a bummer. Its the worst kept secret in Clitheroe.

Erm, OK then. Well what's wrong with that? You say it like it's a bad thing.

Could you perhaps explain why Clitheroe seems to come up time after time after time in the public school community? Is it some kind of old boy HQ? Seemed like an impoverished, depressing northern town when I visited it :/

Nothing wrong with it. Like I said in my original post, he is dead sound i've met him twice formerly and once when I was in Clitheroe he saw me and let me get away with parking in an illegal place.

Lol I've met him but we had better things to talk about than his sexuality. He's very....erm.....Welsh.

In response to Fishpaste: There are quite a few posh schools in and around Clitheroe, so that's probably why it keeps coming up. It is a bit bleak there though, I do agree.
