Do we not get a freshers week?!

I may be wrong, but it seems that as we medical and healthcare students start our courses before the majority of other uni students start their's, it means we miss out on freshers week

This seems very unfair to me because i want the chance to get free stuff and meet lots of people and have some fun before i get plunged into university life. And freshers week is one of the thing's that uni students do, it can't be somehting people miss out on.

Does anyone know any more on this, or do you think we should try to get our own special freshers week or party, or general gathering and minglement?!

in the first few weeks hopefully they wont expect much of u. Defo go out for freshers week and dont think about work too much. my freshers 10 days started on the thursday i arrived, fri morning i had an induction and by monday i was in lectures - but i didnt bother doing any work for them! it was all about the nights out! Go and enjoy yourself, the uni will expect it of you!
i can only say the same as i said in the GUD forum...that being that because we started earlier we didn't get involved in freshers week as much as other students did. but i did do freshers week when i started my second year and it wasnt all that special tbh.

there is still always the night to go out...and house/flat parties are the way forward.

also...there is still all the rest of the year to make up for freshers week.
Usually in the first term everyone starts at the same time, regardless of the course.

Generally because of accommodation and stuff like that. Other terms may be different, and in second and third years you may go back a lot earlier. For example, I started my course just after freshers week this year (1st year), but I start lectures on the 4th of September in 2nd year.

You won't miss out on freshers week. Its usually when you enrol and get finance confirmed too.

slightly different for georges because we're all healthacre students so we all get a freshers week anyway

I expect so. Depends more on the uni. But I see no reason why not!

I don't think they do... i think they're exempt in the University Freshers Act 1993

I think the answer basically just really depends on what University you go to.. for instance I know that the Masters course at Nottingham has the same dates as 'normal' students in the first year.. the first year also does not count at all towards your degree! It's the same at Edinburgh.. but then both of these are 4 year courses.. if you are just having lectures in the first weeks (rather than being out on placement) surely you can join in the freshers for your first year anyway?? I mean ok you don't get it when you first start because you're too early, but why wouldn’t we be able to join in?? I'm all worried now
