Nightlife in Lancaster

Hey, was just wondering if anyone could tell me what the nightlife is like in Lancaster - I visited in the summer but I didn't know where to look. Thanks :smile:x

There is no night life in the summer!

There's loads of studenty stuff during term time though. It depends what you like but there's Liquid, The Lounge, Hustle, Toast and The Sugarhouse in Lancaster doing the usual cheesey club nights as well as alternative nights.

There's also the Carlton in Morecambe. The less said about it the better.

hi,
i think the night life in Lancaster is quite good. it doesn’t have anywhere near as many places to go as a large city such as Manchester, Birmingham etc but it has quite a few. Lancaster is also defiantly a student town at night so everything is geared towards us. So you can often get free buses back to uni or about £7-£9 in a taxi. there is also quite a variety in venues. the main clubs are;

Sugarhouse, owned by the student union and probably the biggest club and has a mixture of music. I like this place as drinks are quite cheap and you’re not squashed onto the dance floor.

Liquid, quite a nice place and again quite roomy with mainly R&B/hip-hop kind of music.

Toast, not as big as the others but has 2 parts, one Hip-Hop/R&B and the other Rock/Indie.

Lounge, quite small bar like venue that again plays mainly Hip-Hop/R&B. i personally don't like this place due to it's size but i have many friends who like it the best. the only reason i go in there is due to a great drink called Hypnotic!

The Carlton; about as big as the sugarhouse but is in Morecombe. this is the cheesiest club ever but as long as you drink a lot you would be surprised how much fun it is. mainly plays cheesy music with quite a few classic floor fillers (bring on YMCA  ) with tickets you also get free bus rides there and back, takes about 30min from campus.

they are the main clubs around and then there are also quite a few bars that can be good like Vodka Revolution and the usual Walkabout and Weatherspoons.

And don’t forget the 9 bars on campus!

My friend goes to Newcastle Uni, and I'm sorry to say it, but Newcastle will be a lot better night out than Lancaster. But you make the best of it, and we all love it!

Yea, it makes it hard to decide whether to go to somewhere bigger even though I really like Lancaster, when you're used to Newcastle it might be too different x

Let's face it... Lancaster is a town where over 10% of its population are students. Its geared up for students so you can't possibly think it has a bad nightlife! (although it tends to be a little bit on the cheesey side).

Lancaster has the most pubs and bars per square mile of any place in the UK too. FACT.
Lancaster is a town that focuses on it's student population because it is an important source of income into the town and there are a lot of students as Feedback says. So there will be lots of pubs and clubs for students.

yeh lancaster does have night nife. Its just that its way too cheesey

I know feedback are catering towards the indie/elecro/alternative side of things. Im gonna check that place out next week for shure!!

Its just that there isnt enough variation in the places. Lol i come from a place that is exactly the same. but i had manchester on my doorstep

I just dont find myself motivated to get my ass off campus because i mite as well just stay on campuss with my mates and go to one of the bars (PUBS!!! lol they aint bars)

However after saying this, at least im aving my money this way.

dont get me wrong im having the time of my life, its just lancaster lacks in its nightlife for me personally. But thats my opinion, im shure ppl love the cheese!!

There is a lot more going on than the cheese though. It's just that places like Liquid have the funds to advertise all over campus and obscure the rest of the things happening in Lancaster.

Once you look under the surface you'll find hip hop, dance, trance, punk, goth... everything! It's just knowing where to look - The Gregson, Korners Bar at the Farmers Arms, The Yorkshire House and occasionally The Crypt are all worth searching out.

You need to go on websites such as
http://www.lancasterukonline.net/whatson/01jan.htm
and look at the posters on the noticeboards in town for more alternative things to do with your evenings.

It's a pity that most students just get swept along with the stereotype of 'being a student' (i.e. getting pissed in a nightclub playing cheesey music and getting off with whoever you can) and go to all the usual student hang-outs.

I come from liverpool where there is a HUGE range in nightlife so i thought it would be difficult comming to Lancsater, but i've loved every minute of it! So long as you have a few good mates you can go ANYWHERE (even the Carleton)! and have a good night.

I dunno if they still do, but the Bobbin used to have the odd gig. It's a pity Warehouse had to shut, as they had some good alternative nights (drum n base, rock)

yeh cheers

I guess its just me not looking in the right places.

Ive only been here for a few months so ill learn
Carlton - not a nice place - just dont go unless your very drunk
Liquid - ok in small doses and make sure you go on student night either monday (lancs students) or wednesday (st martins) any other night and it tends to be a bit chavy imo.
Weatherspoons - good food, cheap
Revs - ok I guess but watch your drink
9 bars on campus - all good! even cartmel and lonsdale if you can be bothered walking down there.

Gigs at the Bobbin are rubbish... awful sound and usually crap bands.

I heard a rumour that Revolution is moving down to where the Warehouse used to be (they're going to knock it down and re-build) and the current Rev is going to become student flats.

I agree!

Lancaster's nightlife isn't world class but, as Lucy says, it's what you make of it. You'll probably meet some great friends here and that's the most important thing.

My favourite venue is probably Sugarhouse - i'm not too keen on Liquid personally and avoid the Carleton too (although it's certainly an 'experience' everyone must have)!
Experience Carelton just once though any more than that and well you better have a good strong liver!

I'm going to the Carleton tonight, and suprisingly, I can't wait!
Noooo ive been twice in the 2 and a half years that ive been at Lancaster and im not intending to go again. I just dont see the attraction of the place but each to their own  Hope you have a good night!

i was not planning on going but somehow i have been roped into it. so I’ll be there tonight getting as drunk as i can. Strange that you live in the same house to me 'LubyLoo' and your going to the Carlton as well as me on the same night yet i don't know who you are. lol.
Did you see that 7 foot Santa clause in our kitchen around Christmas? cause I’m going to try and get one of my flat mates to dress in it, if i manage it I’m sure you'll know where i am  .

P.S. i don't have a ticket, is it necessary?
