Is WhatPulse safe?

Hey everyone,

I just noticed the TSR WhatPulse society and wondered if it really is safe. I know I'm probably being a little paranoid, but does it only register how many keys you tap and click as opposed to what keys you tap?

I thought it must be safe is pig is using it (as he's a computer whizz and wouldn't do it otherwise), but still have my reservations. I just thought I might as well join the TSR team for a bit of fun. Anyhows, clarification on this would be most appreciated.

There has been nothing I have seen to suggest that they record what you type. Only how many keys you type

it is perfectly safe, i know many people who are obsessed with computer security who use it

It is indeed 'safe'; I know this to be true not because I simply believed what they told me but because I reverse engineered it. However, it's pointless if you ask me. Oh and the difference between the way it actually counts the keys and the way it could log the keys in order (if they were so inclined) is actually a teensy weensy difference.

What is whatpulse?

Whatpulse if a program that counts the number of keystrokes and clicks that you execute.
And what is the point in that?

The more that joint eh better known we will become.

As for being safe it is fine. I have been using it for a while now and haven't had any probs.

I used it for only a minute and the results were disastrous! First my computer got stolen, I then got mugged on the way to the police station and then the ambulance was hijacked on the way to the hospital.

Damned Whatpulse!!! :p:

If I remember right, pig reverse-engineered it and it was perfectly safe  .
I'm on a Mac - should I bother?

And what happens if I just write a script clever enough to fool the programme?

Or like, leave a small paperweight on my keyboard...

There's no mac client, so no  . Or at least there is one floating around somewhere very obscure, at least not easily findable through even the whatpulse homepage.

Apparently they catch people who cheat, I have no idea how.
im not in the TSR team, im in the AAO Tracker team. Ranked 10

If you hold down a key it only registers it as one key press, so if you left a weight on there all day you would still only get 1 on the keycount. So if you wanted to cheat you'd have to sit there hammering away at the keys.

I think they have to make assumptions when deciding who's cheating or not, for example if you are pulsing strong for 24 hours solidly then theres clearly something going on because you should be asleep at some stage - they just look how feasible it is to get your key counts in a day for instance. With LPK, who got thrown off, he was getting well over 100,000 keys per day which is a huge amount of keys and they didnt think this was possible without cheating.
I can easily clear 100k by just playing games...

None - which is exactly why everyone should join the TSR Folding Team and save the world.....

The coding has been reverse engineered by Pig personally, hes found no recognition that it records the individual keys you press and logs them, it only record how many keys you have pressed alltogether. Chers.
