hair salons in London

Hey all,

believe it or not, haven't gotten my hair cut while i've been here in London...scared to trust a hair dresser!! needless to say, i badly need a hair cut now. Not at all familiar with British or London hair salon chains - so this is a basic question. Any reliable, good, affordable hair salons you recommend? What is a reasonable price to pay in London for a good (female) hair cut?

If not...any particular place you recommend in London?

Thanks!
Hmmmm, well there are good hairdressers like Toni & Guy, but this is ridiculously overpriced! I've found the best thing to do is to go to something like the Toni & Guy Academy in London where hairdressers are being trained on the job. You get a cheap haircut (£5/£10) which is of the same standard as a normal stylist at Toni & Guy. A lot of the people there seem to be hairdressers already just wanting a bit of extra training, so don't worry about ending up with a crazy haircut! I've not yet had a bad experience.

I'll see if I can find a link and post it on here.
Toni & Guy = overpriced toddle that I could have done myself.

Im still bitter about that £30.
'concrete' on drury lane (previously taylor and taylor)- have been going for 4 years since i came to uni in london, and have never had a bad cut. prices are reasonable for london too- 35quid for cut and blow.

If you want a good cheap haircut, you can go to the Toni & Guy Academy, the Vidal Sassoon Academy or the L'oreal Academy - all are very good and I've tried L'oreal and Vidal Sassoon myself so would reccommend them.

NB. Vidal Sassoon do slightly more 'experimental'/'radical' haircuts, so if you want something very conservative, then I'd steer clear. Hope that this helps.

I got a cut with the style director at Toni & Guy a few weeks ago with a printed out picture of George Michael. It cost £40 but it was the best haircut I've ever had. Bringing a picture with you is the only way I think, a picture speaks a 1000 words like they say.

so...i took your all's advice, and called up T&G's Academy...but they were booked for the next two weeks. I crossed my fingers, and called the Vidal Sassoon school, and they gave me an appointment for the next day!!!

my hair's curly - so...it was super important to me to get a nice haircut that won't make me look like a frizz ball. I had really long hair, and although they did cut it shorter than i wanted it, it's a great haircut!!! - with factors taken into account as the shape of my face, texture of my hair, and consequences of the type of cut. What i liked about it is that after every section that was cut, the supervisor (who was a professional VS stylist with many many years experience) had to check, fix, and approve to go on. So, it did take twice as long as a normal haircut, but well worth the price of 4.50!

thanks for the advice!

It's near Bond Street - I can't remember the number, but I've got it somewhere. I'll post it up if I stumble across it.
0207 318 5202- Vidal Sassoon's number.

On Davies' Mews, if i remember rightly, (2 min walk from Bond Street st.)

I've got really thick curly hair, and have been thinking of doing the same thing you did, so it was really nice to read about your experience. Thanks for positng it:smile:
