Just quite an *important* thought...

that I think is worth mentioning.

Basically my mother is obsessed with going to tarot card readings. She uses different people every time. The last woman she went to see [very recently] was particularly good [I know fo sho because I was listening to the tape recorded reading just this arvo] and was churning out all sots of facts, events, dates etc about our family. This woman had never met my mum before. But wtfev, this isn't the important bit - this is...

The tarot card reader predicted that in the very near future there would be the unexpected death of someone *once* very close to my mum. What happened on friday? A really good friend of my mums who emigrated to Australia died suddenly at the age of 57. You might say this is pure coincidence, and it might well be, but the fact remains that my mum is now completely freaked out by this. I rushed downstairs on friday afternoon when I heard her burst into tears, she told me what had happened and I was like [in a nice way] "ok but just try and calm down for a minute" and she just said "but remember the tarot card reader". It was quite disturbing actually to see my mum so upset [it was more than just being upset at a friends death, she was actually, and still is, freaked out big time].

Furthermore this tarot card woman said that my mum would be involved in a "serious" car accident shortly, but would completely escape injury herself - although others, I quote "in the other vehicle will be killed". At first my mum thought this was bull but following the death of her friend she's convinced it's going to happen :frown:

I just think dabbling in tarot cards isn't a good idea. Don't do it :frown:
I keep telling my mother that it's a bad thing, for her health, to be doing, but even this occurrence hasn't put her off. She's determined to go back and frankly I'm not happy about it at all.
I have to agree with you on this one! Tarot cards, psychics and the like are dangerous. It is most probably coincidence, but the death of this friend is having far more effect on your mum that it would have done if Tarot cards had not been involved.
I'm a Christian, and I truly believe that tarot card readers etc are really dabbling with things they don't understand with things like this. The devil may tell them things to convince people, may give them supernatural knowledge etc. I believe demons and things are everywhere in our lives, and phsysics give them a way in.
Try and calm your mum down a bit, talk to her about coincidences and try to persuade her not to go back. I don't know if you're a Christian - if you are (even if you're not actually) I would really advise praying about it.
I heard a theory that tarot cards actually make the future, rather than predict it.

all things like this are evul.. thats how i look at it. So any kind of what you can call "witchcraft" is really to be avoided. However some people are purely skeptical about this, but hey ho.. ive experienced a lot of "unusual" things in the past. If sum1 asks me to tell teh story, I would XD
My auntie does tarot cards. Not seriously, she doesn't do it on the general public, but she's done courses in it just for fun. I personally don't believe them, but what's happened to your mum is quite disturbing. I agree with you that they shouldn't be used, because even if nothing does happen, the fact that someone else has predicted yuour future could make you act differently. For example, now your mum believes she's going to be in a car crash, she'll possibly stop driving which could affect her job, lifestyle or whatever.

I think your Mum should stop going.

Its like horoscopes, because you know about it, everything starts
to become revelent. Like a self-fufilling prophercy
The tarot reader ought to be bloody shut down. You do realise that every time your mum drives a car now she is likely to be worrying about what was said? And if someone is worrying constantly they aren't concentrating on driving and are thus more likely to crash. I would just tell her not to worry; the death of her old friend was coincidence - 57 is not the height of youth. These things are self-fulfilling. If tarot readers were really so great they'd predict who was going to win the Grand National or which lottery numbers were going to come up and then go and retire in the sun.

Exactly, what englishstudent said.

Also, there is a code with these psychics, fortune tellers etc, that you never tell anyone bad news. Now, it sounds like your mum is "addicted" to this tarot card reading thing, can you talk to anyone about it?

Of course I realise that my mum is going to worry every time she drives - thats why I started the thread to show what a -ve impact going to tarot card readers can have!

I've been telling my mother for ages not to go, and I'm determined she definitely won't go again. However I do think there is some truth in the whole tarot thing - I'm sorry but there just is. When I listened to the tape I was surprised that the woman knew loads about me and my brother [like exactly which uni I go to, what I study etc etc]. She knew things in lots of detail, yet had never met my mum before.

But despite this I still think it's a bad thing for my mum to be doing. It's scared her big time.
It was a rhetorical question.

And?

I realised that but chose to respond anyway.
Good for you.

I've done tarot reading on my own since I was 13, I've only 'predicted' (sound silly when talking 'bout myself) one death though and yes, it was scary. BUT THIS, I would be really nervous, especially if I was your mum.
Noone can control your destiny and your fate there is technically no such thing as fate just a chain of events kind of like dominos, actually thats a bad example seeing as you can tell when a domino is gonna fall, but they are similar in the sense that there is a chain of events leading to the end. Tarot cards and all that stuff whether it's true or not is still dodgey buisness because it can subconciously make you do things and screw with your mind I would also advise not doing it. I really don't know what you can say to your mum seeing as I've never been in this situation. I guess you could try and explain that it's all b******s or something if you can't make her come round try a physciatrist I know it seems like a big thing but could be for the best. Hope I helped.
