Cystitis and sex... any advice??

OK.. basically, i suffer really badly from cystitis the day after i have sex with my boyfriend.. i never used to with my ex- maybe because he was slightly smaller.. i dont know..

I have been to the doctors twice about this in the last month, and been given 2 courses of antibiotics.. they have worked for a while, but its back again now.

I'm pretty sure its the sex that is causing it.. but i dont want to just stop having sex! thats just no fun!

Any ideas how i can prevent getting it again in the future? Or how i can get rid of it without antibiotics?

Or, does anyone think it could be anything other than cystitis, it does seem a bit weird to me, its not as bad as it was before when i was given antibiotics ( i actualy did have an infection then, they did a water test at the doctors) It seems unlikely that ive got another infection.. is it possible that im suffereing from something else.. like a weak bladder  and the sex is just making it worse??

please help anyone if you can!! I will go back to the doctora aginain soonish, but i just want to know if anyone can give me some advice on here first...

thanks guys
An ex of mine said juice worked well, cranberry juice if i remember correctly.
Best of luck

I had the same problem, so much so that I used to get Kidney infections, you don't want one of them.

Basically it turned out I wasnt drinking enough water, i.e. none at all. I had to make sure I drink at least a litre a day and as the above poster said, Cranberry Juice or supplments can prevent/sooth mild cases. Also make sure you go to the loo after sex (not immediately!! just within an hor) and wipe front to back.

I know your pain. Try explaining it to your parents!
I had this  My bf used to visit me at uni every weekend and maybe it was the fact we did it a lot in a short space of time I don't know. Anyway I developed a kidney infection because of it. My doctor gave me antibiotics and urged me to drink more water and cranberry juice
Hope it helps

Definitely go to the toilet after sex. Cystisis is caused when bacteria get into the urethra and inflame it, causing pain when you urinate. If you go to the loo straight after sex then it flushes these bacteria out of the urethra before they have chance to take hold.

When i first got it i thought i was dying. I've been so careful since! xx

Lol, same :p:

Ive been on two courses of antibiotics for it but I can control it myself now by drinking loads more and going to the toilet after sex. Also dont hold your wee in at anytime because it becomes stagnent and can worsen it. And yeh - cranberry juice rocks for cystitis

plus you can mix vodka and lime juice in to make a Cosmopolitan - healthy drink!
I used to get it. Not any more, just by following these rules:

1) Drink lots of water (i have a 1.5 litre bottle with me most of the time!)
2) Drink 200ml cranberry juice every day
3) Always go to the loo after sex
4) Try to always have a shower after sex too and wash with something designed for that area eg femfresh
5) Always keep some medication (Boots own brand Cystitis releif/Cymalon) in my bathroom cupboard, so if it does still flare up, it can be dealt with without having to make emergency trips to the chemist!

Good luck
