Don't worry about wether your reason is good enough, if you feel you need to transfer as your current university is affecting your studies then that is a good enough reason. There is no point in staying somewhere you are unhappy.

However, when discussing it with the university I personally wouldn't mention it about your partner. This should be about you and why you want to move, not that your partner is moving to sheffield so you want to.

What is your subject in? Then I will know the faculty and might be able to direct you furthur to the admissions office

Thank you for your reply

I think I'm just worrying too much because I've set my hopes on getting the transfer I want.

The subject is joint Criminology and Sociology. I rang the admissions back in October and they said they wouldn't be able to tell me about whether a transfer is possible until January at the earliest so I'm going to ring within the next few weeks.

Yea that's a completely different faculty to me so I can't talk about how they work. When I rang admissions, it seemed every different person I spoke to gave me a different answer. I know that course is very popular so it will probably depend on if people drop out in the first year which is why they said talk again in Jan.

I would contact them soon and get your UCAS done asap.

It wouldn't do you any harm if you wanted to send off a UCAS and waited for them to contact you if you want to ensure the ball gets rolling.

In my experience the admin people couldn't really help, and they told me a transfer wasn't possible multiple times, it wasn't until I was put through to the course leader that he allowed a transfer.

Have you been to look at the Hallam? Are you sure it is what you want? If you haven't looked round yet - it may be worth asking if you can arrange to be shown round and having a little chat with some of the course tutors if they are available. You have the option of putting upto 5 options on the UCAS form so I would recommend using all 5, just incase.

Well my issue continues, i have lost count how many times i have tried to explain to this one University member of staff, on have to send the reference to UCAS, but still nothing.

I also spoke to UCAS and explained the situation, but there is not much they can really do.

My hopes seem to be fading, not really sure what else i can do.

Can you apply to the same uni for both a second year transfer and to start in first year?. I am particularly set on a uni i wish to attend, I have the grades to get in, but should my course not match I would like to have the back up. Would doing this make me look bad in anyway?

You could in theory put point of entry 2 and point of entry 1 for two different courses on your UCAS. However, I don't think it would come accross very well to the university.

I would suggest talking to your chosen university about your current transcript and ask if a transfer is possible. If a transfer is not possible, put point of entry 1.

If a transfer could be a possibility, apply for point of entry 2. If you get rejected, you can always try for point of entry 1 through clearing.

most unis will automatically consider you for year 1 if they won't give you an offer for year 2.

Hi,

I know the UCAS deadline is soon, but I have no idea what to write for the first few lines of my personal statement. Do I just write why I want to transfer and why am interested in their university?

Also, my university course leader says I should get the previous person who did my reference to do it, which would be my school teacher. Would that lower my chance in getting a transfer, as it isn't from my most recent higher education tutor? Would it be okay for my teacher to submit the reference they wrote about me last year and just put it as my reference or would they need to change it?

Thank-you.
just got rejected from Manchester :frown:
Hey guys, I have a quick question

I am doing a foundation year atm and looking to transfer to another uni (they have told me to send me a UCAS form). I just want to know, if the transfer doesn't happen or i dont get their conditional grades, i will still continue on at my current uni, right? I dont wanna be left without a place next year, even tho im not rly enjoying my course at my current uni, i would rather continue than not being left with a place for next year. Also, if i somehow change my mind, I can just cancel my UCAS form, right?

Can someone pls give me a definitive answer

Thank You very much

Your personal statement should state clearly your reasons for wanting to transfer, for the course and for the university.

You could get a school teacher to give your reference, however, when I transferred every university I spoke to wanted a reference from my current university. This could vary between universities, but, the university your wanting to transfer to will want to know how you study at your current university, what grades are predicted, your attendance etc.

Only your current university can give you a definite answer. I'm not sure how it works with foundation years but with normal degree years transfers.. If you get declined for the transfer or don't make the conditional offer, you will still be able to reenrol for your next year at your current university. (Providing you hadn't formally withdrawn from the course). If you change your mind you can decline the offers, or withdraw your UCAS form.

well, if you tell your current uni you're leaving you won't have a place. but if you don't, you're fine. just make sure that you automatically carry on with the course after the foundation year as you may have to tell a tutor you want to stay or something like that.

and yes you can cancel your UCAS application if you change your mind.

I don't understand sorry.

Are you saying I will only lose my place at my current Uni when the conditional offer becomes firm unconditional?

The thing is, i wanna transfer but in case the transfer doesn't happen, i'm happy to continue with my course here next year. What do you mean if I tell them i'm leaving? like if i tell them i'm withdrawing from the course? I don't want to withdraw, as i'd b happy to study here next year but i would prefer to transfer for personal reasons

Thanks for the help

you'll only lose your current place if you tell em you're going, or if you don't do something required to stay on.

I'm hoping to transfer in to the second year of my course at NTU, but I have an unconditional offer from Derby to start again in first year. If I don't meet the conditions of a transfer or if it doesn't go through, am I guaranteed the place at Derby if I put it as my insurance choice?

then perhaps you should rethink your plan as it gets a lot more complicated than this. if you can't understand a very basic sentence you'll struggle later.

Fine well excuse me if i don't understand much about this process... its not my fault if a basic sentence to you could mean me losing out on a place here next year...

well thanks anyway... :frown:

What is it that you're asking? There's usually a confidential advice bureau or something similar at every uni, and they often have specialised people to advise students who may be considering transferring or withdrawing. I wouldn't be surprised if you've already consulted them, but if not, I'd strongly advise doing so as they can often tailor advice specifically to your uni and your own personal case. There are indeed great people on this forum who can offer good advice, but not always the best place to look first.

You can tell your uni that you are applying for a transfer, but unless you formally (ie in writing) tell them that you are leaving, your place is still yours, provided you meet any requirements (eg submitting coursework, attendance at lectures/seminars/tutorials, passing exams) that if you didn't could result in you being kicked off the course in any case.
