Exrower & Gym

Hi...

Last year I used to row for my school...we did well, won various races, but then because of an argument between some crew members and our coach we broke up...

I am approx. 187 cm tall and during my rowing times I had 74 kg...I used to train 5 times/week, but since my crew broke up I have not done much serious exercise (except playing football for my house in the School's league), loosing 4.5 kg of weight - muscles in 4 months...I wanna row at the uni in a decent crew, but to do that I need to get my fitness back...

In the school we have a really well equipped gym, however I don't really know what type of exercise/how often should I do in order to get my fitness back as soon as possible whilst staying lightweight(<74 kg) at the same time...

Could anyone please help?!

THANKS!!!

Sounds like you just need to get rowing to get a decent level of fitness back. I probably wouldn't worry about gaining too much weight because it sounds like your metabolism is pretty fast - you stopped exercising and lost weight as opposed to gaining it.

Yeah, that's right, I don't want to get weight, just fitness...but the situation with rowing is quite difficult...i can do ergos, but all decent school crews are full in the moment and I cannot fit back in without having a decent fitness...

ergos is all you need to do. Maybe with a bit of weight training in there if you like. But long ergos will just improve fitness and shed some fat if you have some to lose.

I recommend you do some weights, squats and ergs. Think about what you used to do at the start of the season and gradually build it up. Did you keep a training diary? Join a rowing forum? Alt you culd just ring around some rowing clubs and see what they recommend.

Thanks guys...Yeah, I've already joined a rowing forum...I have a training diary (back in Slovakia, 3,000 km to the east ), but I had there a solid physical training - ergos, runs, weights, I still remember the majority of it...
