Buy a 125cc motorbike, do your full motorbike test so you can take it on the motorway (although you'll only be able to do 70 so pretty much slow lane only), and you're sorted.

Yes it would cost you a bit to get started, you could get bike, gear and license for about £1600, a 125cc bike will do about 100mpg and cost you about £300 per year to insure (and far less than that if you're over about 22).

Relatively high initial outlay, although the vast majority of it will come back to you when you sell the bike, but bugger all cost after that.

I'm pretty dopey and my parents know it, they'd never let me get a bike because I'd probably get into a crash or something! Seriously, I ripped my trousers by walking into my garden gate...If that ain't stupid, I don't know what is!!

Seems a waste of money though?

Yeah, but I'd be wasting it on accomodation any way, not forgetting extra cost for gas, elec, food, other stuff! At least at home I have all that and I'm in London which is pretty good fun for going out etc.
Where abouts in London are you?

Whenever I have to go to Reading outside of term time I go from Surbiton. I go from there to Weybridge then to Virginia Water then to Earley and then it's a small walk to Campus from there.

Otherwise, the slow train from Waterloo is slightly cheaper than the Paddington train, though that is much much quicker.

Thanks for your advise, I really appreciate it. Do I have to buy the ticket every day then? Or can I use this 33% off card for weekly passes?

If you buy a 16-25 railcard - you can do this anytime at the station or online - you buy the ticket every day at the station - £24.75 before 09:20, £10.55 thereafter (although £12 before 10:00).

A weekly pass (known as a season ticket) is different, you can't use the railcard because it's heavily discounted anyway. You go to the station on the morning and ask for a season ticket for the length of time you want.

A season ticket is £90 a week or £344.10 a month (much cheaper than most uni accommodation in Reading).
