I read somewhere that if the parents are married, the baby's automatic surname is the father's name, and if the parents are unmarried, the baby has the mother's name. However, I read that in a Victorian novel, so even if it was true once, it's probably horribly out of date! :biggrin:

I think the surname choice is down to the mother...even if a couple marry the husband can take the wifes surname! though i think the child can take the guardian'parent/s name then when they turn 16 if they wish they can change surname!
