Can anyone help me with this question, our teacher has set this as homework and told us to research it, seeing as we haven't done it in class yet, but I've no idea where to start looking.
Q1. In an experiment to investigate the structure of the atome, Alpha particles are directed normally at a thin metal foil which causes them to be scattered.
a) i) In which direction will the number of alpha particles per second be a maximum?
ii) State what this result suggests about the structure of the atoms in the metal.

For your research look for Rutherford's Alpha Particle Scattering Experiment.
The experiment provided evidence for the existence of the nucleus.
