I like to be creative but I find often these days everyone is reading the same books, watching the same movies and listening to the same music. I like to explore music and film online but to find new reading material I have become addicted to 2nd hand book shoping.

The idea is to go to a 2nd hand book shop with no idea in mind of what to buy and just browse for obsure stuff I have never heard of such as 1970's feminist sci-fi fiction or a book about Magic in Elizabethan times. Its such fun like a real tresure hunt and very inspiring. Anyone else do this?

That sounds like a really great idea.

I've thought of a similar type of thing before, go to HMV and pick up a cheap DVD in a random section and buy the most random cheap book in Waterstones and see if it does indeed broaden my horizons.

I say go for it, you never know what you could end up discovering and learning.
