Highest interest rate, whether it be just or the first year? Don't want fixed rate, so variable ones.

http://www.moneysupermarket.com/savings/cash-isas/

This is for flexible ISA accounts. Currently the best ones appear to be Northern Rock (3.05%) and ING (3%). However, bear in mind the right-hand columns - these tell you important aspects like how you can access the account. Some are very accessible, some only by post, others by branch, or online etc.

However, according to t'internet, Santander is offering 2.8% too, but isn't mentioned in the list.

If for a year why bother with an ISA if you are a student. Put it in a regular saving account with interest gross of tax.

Not a student and won't be putting away monthly.
