The enzyme catalase breaks down hydrogen peroxide to form water and oxygen.

If you add the enzyme to a solution of hydrogen peroxide you will see bubbles of oxygen = positive test

    H2O2.........catalase.......H2O and O2

Catalase catalyses the reaction between hydrogen peroxide, H2O2, and oxygen, O2. This produces foam, i.e. oxygen, on the surface of the hydrogen peroxide.
    H2O2 + O =[catalase]= H2O + O2
