Why do you think you have it? Are you an oncologist*? Get thee to a doctor, and they will tell you what is going on. If you think it is something as serious as that, then clearly posting on a forum is the best thing to do. Dill.

*obv not.

hey, say u got bowel cancer and dont want surgery, how long do you have left to live ? and if you do have surgery how much does it cost and how long do u expect to lve then....i think i have it. :frown:

Are you crazy? You can't just go and self diagnose bowel cancer to get sympathy. That won't wash here.

If you are eligible to receive treatment on the NHS, it will be free. What are your symptoms? Why wouldn't you want treatment?
A member of my family was diagnosed with bowel cancer a couple of years ago and was treated for it with a novel drug - and it has worked up to now and he's going strong and back in work (crosses fingers - hope it stays this way.) Yes, chemotherapy makes you feel ill etc but it's worth it in the end.
However, you probably don't have bowel cancer!

My grandad had bowel cancer, all the chemo and stuff, and he is still alive. Yay! He recovered fairly quickly, to be honest it wasn't even that obvious he was ill at all!

In the early stages it is reasonably easy to cure I believe, but sometimes hard to detect (blood is only produced at low levels). Ronald Reagan had it in a very early stage whilst President and was cured. It takes about 4-5 years I believe to fully grow and then is deadly.

Treatment is free.

With early treatment, cure rates are around 80% at 5 years.
Without treatment, most are dead or in the advanced stages of dying within 18 months of diagnosis.

It is pretty uncommon ( but does ocassionally happen ) among those under 30.

My grandad was 78 when he was diagnosed of this, he had a sucessful operation to remove it although he needed a bag. However it turned out he also had a total seperate cancer in his liver and this killed him six months after the bowel cancer operation.

Apparantly a faulty thryroid can give off similiar symtons to bowel cancer so don't panic just yet. See a doctor and get some tests done quick.

As far as I know bowel cancer does have a fairly high survival rate but may need a bag which will affect your quality of life.

Are you sure it's not colitis? Seriously, go to a doctor if you're worried. But it could just be poor diet.

Reply 13

Could just be 'roids. I'm not a doctor and no-one else is - especially not you. So quit with the self-diagnosis and if you're that concerned go to a doctor.

What he said.

There are so many other things that it could be before you should even start to think about cancer. Certainly something to be concerned about, so book an appointment with your GP. but it's more than likely not serious, so don't book that once in a lifetime swim with dolphins just yet.

I can understand why you would be worried, but remember that self diagnosing something as serious as cancer can be a little insesnitive towards those affected by it.
