Hi, I'm a college student who has just started the A2 year. My subjects are Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics.

Basically, I want to apply to UCL to do a Maths degree, but I unfortunately fell short of the required A* in maths (by 1 UMS!). I'm resiting in January to get the A*, but I want to know if UCL will still consider me?

    Do they hate resits?

You couldn't have got an A* at AS anyway. I'd give UCL admissions a call, explain your situation, then at least you'll get an immediate answer.

But I've done A2 maths? I mean, I'm not officially awarded the qualification until next summer, but I know if I got A* or not by looking at my scores in C3 and C4 - if they're average 180 UMS, then it's an A*. I know I need 1 UMS.

But yeah, I was going to ring them tomorrow, but seeing as it's late in the night, I thought I'd try and get some answers from here first.

I doubt they'd reject you just because of that, though it is possible (I missed out on the A* last year too, and it could have been one of the main reasons for only receiving 2 offers.) It's still worth applying, if you don't apply you won't know, and try get this mentioned in your reference, so they know that you were close-though perhaps this isn't so important for UCL as they ask for module marks, apparently.

"The admissions decision making process for Mathematics at UCL considers all aspects of the application but finds Mathematics A-level module percentages particularly helpful. Please therefore include percentages achieved in modules already sat in your application. Failure to supply this information is likely to lead to lengthy delays in the consideration of your application. " That was on their UCAS page for Maths, so they'd probably realise you were 1 UMS off.
