cerazette

i have recently started taking cerazette, i had to switch to it as the combined pill (dianette and marvelon) casued me to have very high blood pressure.

I started taking it 2 1/2 weeks ago, this was before my period was due to start. It started on the day it was supposed to, and has now beeing going on well over a week. This is not normal at all for me, as my periods usually tend to last around 3 days. It is very light, but really annoying me as it prevents me from having sex which is the reason I am on it in the first place!

Would be really helpful to hear if anyone has similar experiences

one of the side affects of the POP is breakthrough bleeding so this is quite common...........I have the same thing with my POP 9Noriday) but my bleeding is EXTREMELY light so I just have sex anyway (So light it barely bleeds - what a waste of time and energy lol)...........I'd give it time as it can take a while for things to adjust when you start/chnage pill (I never had breakthrough bleeding for the first 2 and a half years I was on noriday and then randomly all of a sudden l;ast year it started!)
I'm just about to switch to that because the combined pill gave me headaches..
ive heard what you've described is pretty normal though - i got it when i went on the combined pill - im sure your periods will get back to normal soon - hope that doesnt happen when i go on it

ermm - another thing - does anyone know what effects the mini-pill has on your periods in general.. i think im just thinking its not like the combined - and doesnt have teh same effects(lighter periods etc) - can anyone shed any light on the situation for me?

It got rid of mine for 2 and a half years.............now I have v.v.v.minor breakthrough bleeding.................there is a possibility you will have no periods but there is also a probability that you may get some...........but more than likely they will be lighter
I had one very long but light period when I changed, and nothing after that :frown: though apparently it's normal

My doctor prescribed me Cerazette because my blood pressure was a bit on the high side to go on the combined pill. She said that I was unlikely to be suffering from high blood pressure because I was young and it was probably just anxiety, I am an anxious person in general (I do get very anxious and nervous in doctors, therefore, my heart rate and blood pressure go up. I hate going). However, just to be on the safe side she wasn't going to prescribe me a combined pill just in case I had high blood pressure even though it's unlikely. I was going to have a 24 hour blood pressure test (basically they put a blood pressure monitor on your arm for 24 hours) during December but they didn't get back to me in order to see if I could go on the combined pill. I guess they didn't phone me because I didn't go back to the doctors complaining about Cerazette so they assumed I was fine on it (my doctor said ring them if I had any problems). I am fine , it agrees with me and I've been on it 2 months.

I've only had a few side effects. I was worried about becoming spotty and gaining weight. During the first week I felt a bit bloated and had tender breasts but haven't felt like that for a while. I didn't gain weight but lost half a stone, which was good. It hasn't made me more spotty either, I get the odd few (normally before my period) but did before I went on it. About my periods; it has affected them. My first one I had lasted about 9 days (which was annoying, I was happy about it when it stopped). My second one was very light (like just a bit of spotting) and lasted only 3 days. I've read that Carazette can stop your periods completely. The only downside of that is if it happens to me is the fact I'll probably become paranoid about possibly being pregnant (even though me and my boyfriend also use condoms) and probably end up buying pregnancy tests all the time.

Anyway more information. Cerazette is nearly as effective as the combined pill (studies have suggested it's at least 99% effective, more effective then other mini-pills) as it also stops ovulation most of the time. It also does the things other mini-pills do; such as thickening the mucus around the cervix, preventing sperm entering the uterus and changing the quality of the endometrium (lining of the womb) making it less likely for any fertilized eggs to successfully implant.
