Red bumps in the pubic region

I've noticed that I keep getting these red bumps around that area, not inside but outside, where the hair is. They usually just disappear, or they become like spots you get on the face. I dont get them all the time, and I've noticed I get them mostly around my period, but I'm not sure if that's got anything to do with it.
I has crossed my mind that it might be an STD, because I'm always paranoid like that, but it would highly unlikely and around 1 in a million chance considering my bf hasnt been with anyone else before, and neither have I, plus we havent even got that intimate.
Does anyone know if this is normal, or is it something to really worry about. I'm really worried about it already, and considering going to a doctor, but I'm also hoping it's nothing serious.
do you shave down there?

oh,it's nothing like that. It happens in the areas where I dont shave as well. I'll just usually get one of those, and it can be slightly painful if touched, but usually it's not. Then I wont get another one for a couple of months or so. I'm just getting really worried about it :frown:

If you use towels on your period it could be to do with heat rash or something?...

It could well just be ingrowing hairs, and they become like spots when they get infected.

I hope it's that, although I dont understand why it would happen so irregularly. Could there be anything else causing it? I've tried to look on the internet, and particularly the yahoo health pages keep referring to the std symptoms, which is rather scary and I dont want to believe so I'm thinking it doesnt apply to me.

What sort of STI stuff is it coming up with? I really doubt that it's anything to do with that if neither you nor your bf has been with anyone else before?.

Are you particularly susceptible to spots around your periods on your face etc?

Yeah, I usually do get a few spots on my face around my period. I know it's near impossible for it to be anything like an STD, but when you worry these things and the "what if's" kinda play on your mind, especially for someone like me who worries about everything. I havent had any other changes or symptoms at all, so I should be ok on that front.
