# AS MATHS--Quadratic Equation Exam Question watch

Announcements
1. A line has equation y+mx-1, where m is a constant.
A curve has equation y=x^2-5x+3,

Find the values of m for which the equation x^2-(5+m)x+4=0 has equal roots. I UNDERSTAND THIS PART BUT.... the next part confuses me..

Describe geometrically the situation when m takes either of the values found in part b?

Please explain how to answer this question?

Thank you

I think you have a typo in your first line.

I think you have a typo in your first line.
I know--that's what I thought but thats what it said on the sheet??
4. The equation in line 4 is the result of substituting mx - 1 for y in the equation in line 2....
The roots of the equation in line 4 tell you where the line meets the curve...if the roots are different the line cuts into the curve.
