Hmmm, if it's only happening over 2000 Revs, then I doubt it's an ignition problem. I'm guessing it's probably an ECU problem - could be expensive, but could be a simple as it needing a reset (normally just disconnecting negative battery cable for 15 mins)

Could be loads of things really - is it noticably better/worse when the engine is hot/cold? Has the fuel filter been changed recently? If the filter is partly clogged it will starve the engine of fuel at higher speeds. Does it splutter and shake or just cut out completely?

ECU's are prone to do this on all French cars let alone Saxo's.
Do an ECU reset. there pretty easy to do, and if you search on the Web good enough, there will be a guide to show you how. It normally involves the ignition key!

ECU's tend to interfere with the cars running and power losses at certain revs. Some cars (like yours) just cut out, and can do so at 70mph.

When my uncles Skoda did this it was rather bizzare, it was the ECU cutting the engine out but it was due to a faulty alternator. It wasn't generating three phase electricity required by the ECU so the ECU would fail at random. The final straw was when he was driving at 70mph and the engine cut out.

After much confusion the dealer realised it was the altnernator not working as it should. It was charging the battery fine which was odd.

I remember having to an ECU reset on my dads punto, it had to be done with the red key and pressing certain pedals in sequence (which activated a switch).
Right, lots of things it could be then!

Ok, well I've noticed that it starts to do it when the fuel is quite low, i.e. nearly coming on the red light. Could that be a reason?

The car doesn't shake or splutter, it just cuts out momentarily and then starts again unitl it gets to just over 2000 and it does it again. I've heard someone say it's do do with a filter, but don't know what!?

Does that offer any more clues? I'm a bit wary of taking it to a garage in case they charge just to look at it as I'm completely skint at the moment! So if it's something I could get someone who knows a bit about cars to sort it out then that would be great.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far!
Your fuel pump may be knackered, so it won't be putting the fuel in the chambers. Spark plugs could be knackered. What does the fuel pump sound like?

Just take it to a garage that people in your uni recommend, most won't charge for the actual check. But the work may be costly.
And as it's a Citroen (ie French. French cars have issues) could be troublesome.
:frown: I am seriously skint so I wouldn't be able to afford to get anything fixed.

If only my boyfriend was around then he would be able to sort it, but he's bloody abroad! Oh well, I'll just have to wait until he gets back. I'm going to print this page off so I can show him all the suggestions of what could be wrong with it!!!

Thanks everyone!
