I can't stand Jo Whiley. My favourite cover done on Radio One was McFly's version of I Predict A Riot.

McFly's cover sounded too similar - its like there was no genre-cross over that was noticeable. I wasn't impressed.

Will Young doing 'Hey Ya' by Outkast is what I'm talking about ! The best covers are the ones that sound absolutely nothing like the original.

McFly doing Mylo or something that wasn't 'pop' or 'band-like' would be ace.

The best one has got to be Tali's (not sure how to spell her name) version of 50 Cent's '21 Questions'. It's superb. Is there any way we can listen to the Live Lounge covers?

No the listen again function only lasts upto 7 days. :frown:

People have been discussing on the message boards about how cool it would be if there was a Live Lounge album. I think it would be ace, and they could raise money for charity too with some of the proceeds. Just listened again to the Arctic Monkeys and I giggle everytime the lead singer laughs in the middle, bless.

Its about 24 mins into the Live Lounge session.

www.bbc.co.uk/radio1 and then go to 'Listen Again' and scroll down to the Jo Whiley - Artcic Monkeys Live Lounge or something

Elbow did Independent Women really well a couple of years back.

I heard the Arctic Monkeys thing today and have got a copy of both songs they did in it thanks to the miracle of the internet.
I have also heard Will Young doing Hey Ya and that was a very good cover as well. Another good version of hey ya (think was in the live lounge) was by razorlight!
I missed 50 in on wednesday, what cover did he do?
My favourite was (it's sounds lame but it was really really good and i haven't been able to find a copy of it anywhere since BBC took it off their website) Natasha Bedingfield doing the Scientist she kind slowed it down with almost no instruments in the backround . Razorlight doing hey ya was pretty damn good too.

50 didn't do anything, he just did an interview... :frown:
Razorlight doing Hey Ya and Scissor Sisters' version of Franz's Take Me Out.
crossing genre's is one of the best ways to test how good a record is..

if a song can sound good in different styles you know its a classic, such as "hey ya" by outcast sounded good when done by will young, whilst obviously it sounded great by outcast orginally as well.
Will young - when he did hey ya (outcast) - that was amazing!:biggrin:
ooh and i liked it when charlotte church did - let me love you
Willy Mason's The Message (Grandmaster Flash). Hands down.

You don't look very hard, do you?

I looked it up and was listening to it in under 30 seconds...

Will Young did the Pussycat Dolls' "Don't Cha" the other week and I couldn't decide whether it was brilliant or not! It was strange but good (I think).

Yeah just heard the Arctic Girls Aloud cover, and it is indeed pretty funky, but I think we all know that is down to the song. :p:

I remember hearing McFly cover Kaiser Chiefs and yeah, that was good.

The best cover artist ever is Damo Rice. His and Lisa's covers are absolutely brilliant. Their best has been Pink's "Get the Party Started" - it's stunning. Cobra Verde covered it and it was quite good, but Lisa is great singing on it and Damo plays guitar/backing sings.

His version of Radiohead's "Creep" too is great and he does a pretty good "Hallelujah", "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and "Talkin' Bout a Revolution".

And I know this sounds weird but his reggae version of "Volcano" is sometimes more enjoyable than the original! But his cover of "I Fought in a War" takes the biscuit. Listen. Now!

Incidentally, Lisa Hannigan's cover of "Be My Husband" is fantastic and she does a good "Cannonball" and "Mercedes Benz" and Viv Long (the cellist) does "Seven Nation Army".

Damien's ex-band Bell X1 do the best "Like I Love You" cover by JT.

I know none of these are LL, but bah!

This afternoon Jo Whiley played the Phantom Planet cover of Radiohead's Just. Well, the lead singer of Phantom Planet anyway. I'm not sure if that was a live lounge cover but it was pretty good.
Snow Patrol covered Beyonce's Crazy in love on the Evening Session a while ago... I think Zane Lowe rapped on it, it was pretty cool.

I don't think this is the exact recording they did for Radio 1 but it's atill good to listen to

"Teenage kicks" by Snow Patrol is pretty good, different to the kind of cover bands usually do of it.

By the way just like to give some respect to zhivago about the Damien Rice covers, I am the only person I know who has all those versions (and more) of his music. He can change the tone of any song to suit his own style. In my opinion does a better version of 'Creep' than Radiohead too.
