Diet Buddy?

Hiya, I'm Lucy, I'm really struggling to get the motivation to lose weight- I have good intentions every morning and often have failed myself by lunch!
I'm a rubbish dieter but I'm about 10 1/2 stone and 5 foot 4, I really would like to be thinner so I can be more confident and fit into clothes rather than avoiding going shopping other than when it's an emergency and I'm physically bursting out of the clothes I have already!
Anyway, lots of you seem concerned about your weight and I know that motivation is really hard. I don't want to encourage people who are a normal healthy weight to try and diet because it's nothing but trouble and if I was a size 10/12 I really would rather just get on with my life and not have to try and watch what I eat.
The point is, if any of you are in a similar situation and want to try pairing up to give eachother encouragement/tips/a reason to make it through a 'healthy' day because you've got someone to answer to (not in a mean way!) then it might be an idea.
Thanks, Lucy x

Same, except I'm a couple inches taller! Sadly all my mates have will power and don't need diet buddies! Ah well, I guess I'll have to try the old slim fast!

Hiya- I was thinking we could post eachother to say how we're doing- what we're finding hard, goals, tips etc. Don't worry if it would be weird because you dont know me, just a suggestion because my friends are all gorgeous and skinny (grrr!)

Hiya! I'll happily be your diet buddy!! Have been trying to get the motivation to go back on a diet for ages- managed it last April/May and felt really great but its all piled back on again due to gym membership expiring/ xmas/ general 'piggyness' of me!!!
It'll be good to have someone to moan with/ swap tips with etc...
Not sure of weight at the mo( too scared to look at scales) but last time I checked I needed to lose between half and 1 stone...
So, should we PM each other? (might be better than taking up a thread etc...)

Hiya, that's worth considering, I'm not planning on starting a 'pro-ana' sight though! I've had eating disorders and talked to many other girls going through a whole host of different experiences, talked to doctors, therapists, a dietician- read a million girly magazines about dieting/ eating disorders etc.

I have a pretty good idea of what a balanced diet is and I just want to work towards not bingeing/ eating tons of junk food as nothing other than a comfort. Maybe 'diet buddy' wasn't a great title, I'm thinking of just being able to give eachother support to try and stay on track with whatever you're working towards, if it's losing a bit of 'extra' weight or just trying to improve your health/how you're feeling.

I will be careful not to try and compete- I just am very tired of having no motivation and think there are probably people in the same boat.

I think its good to have abuddy. Dieting can be really hard by yourself with noone to spur you on.

Remember aim for a small target at first for example you first half a stone, then another. Doing this makes it easier as the target isn't that far away and you will fill satisfaction quicker. Good luck folks.

I'm rather overweight and I hate it. But also lack the motivation to diet. I'm heavier than most of you though.. The smallest I've ever been (since "growing up") is 11 stone. So I can probably say I do have more than a bit of a problem with my weight. I need to loose at least 2 stone before I can class myself as "normal". I'm 5"7 by the way. It is really really difficult though when I see all my friends being a size 8 and eating pies every night stuffing themselves with chocolate and still not putting on weight. I'm going to start the "drop a jean size" challenge on monday (when I can go shopping) because I feel I need something drastic that I can notice more quickly, then I hope I can switch to just eating better.

Does anyone have any tips for willpower? I find that mid afternoon when I've got nothing to do, or late at night it gets most tempting. I did a diet with my mum before, and she kept these feelings away by having a mug of Coffee just made with Skimmed milk (was a bit more fulfilling than just a coffee I think was her reasoning!).

Also, when it comes to exercising: I can't afford a gym membership and I'd be a bit embarrassed to be doing stuff like running around the block or whatever. What extra activitives could I add into my daily routines? Walks seem manageable for me, but how long walks each day would be useful?

Key to me loosing weight before was water by the way! 2 litres a day and that seemed very helpful. But also, keep up the healthy eating or it alllll goes back on. As I've discovered!

Im with you girls! I need to lose some weight, Im 5'11 yet it still doesnt really help me. I just would love to lose a couple stone and be a bit more healthier! But Most people i know dont need to diet, or lose weight and I really have zero willpower so Id love to talk to someone else. Im usually great during the day.. But then it gets to the evenings and then it all goes wrong!
I have started to take up some sports tennis and netball, and gonna start using the uni gym but i still need to change my eating habits.

I have very little willpower either, when I need to eat then I need to eat.

I've written this before somewhere, but if you need chocolate then get (from Waitrose or Tesco) low-fat hot chocolate sachets, only 35 kcal per cup for dark chocolate, 40 per cup for normal. They taste surprisingly chocolatey and nice.

Or, if you just have a craving for something sweet then Hartley's mini jellies are good, the low-sugar version has less than 10 kcal per jelly. They're tiny though, so you might want two. They still taste sweet and strawberry-like and I really like them.

Anyway. I'm 5'10 and don't know my weight. I'm dieting to get into a specific dress, so am going all-out in the next couple of weeks. Basically, drinking tons of water (in the evenings I drink warm water - sometimes all you need is the feeling of warmth going down.), briskly walking as much as possible, no fatty food at all - everything is low-cal. My treat every day is a spoonful of honey (I know, I know).

Cravings tend to come in the form of stuff that I ate and felt guilty about before. Sausages, fatty bacon, pasta covered in creamy cheese, Boost bars, Tesco chocolate chip cookies etc etc. This may not work for everyone, but I have found that the best way is to confront your temptation head-on and just say, "you are not going to beat me."

Evenings used to get me, too.

It might help if, the night before, you plan out what you're going to eat for the day and then decide not to deviate from the plan. This way, when you come up against temptation, you know that its not on 'the plan' so you know that its bad and you can't justify it in the heat of the moment.
Hmm,does anyone want to be my diet buddy?

I'm going on hols with a friend later this year and I want to lose all the weight I've gained by then and be skinny and pretty and lovely!Lol.

PM if you want to be my buddy....(I won't put my weight on here,it's too horrific!)

Yeah, this would be a great place just for everyone to place all their dieting woes. If none of your friends are dieting, it can be a lonely road *plays sad violin*

Good luck to you too!

Hiya, How are you?
I was thinking of starting that drop a jeans size diet but I always lose motivation before lunch especially with chocolate machine in the common room, snacks available in the canteen etc. I tend to eat through boredom and I can't go for long amounts of time without eating otherwise I just can't concentrate on anything else and crave junk food. Lots of water and a coffee when you feel like eating mid afternoon is a good idea, I'm a bit rubbish at drinking a lot of water but I really should try!
I used to do waitressing as a part time job and it was really good being on my feet all the time, only down-side was that we sold cakes and scones etc n tended to snack on them when no-one was looking! I do bar work now and in the evenings it gets busy and is quite fun so you end up running around and burning off energy.
I find exercising pretty embarrasing, I can't afford to go to the gym either and I don't think I'd have the motivation to go regularly so I need to try to build in more walking just from day to day. I think if you can walk even 20 mins or 1/2 an hour a day more you'll feel better. i wish I had a dog, my cat never seems to need walking!
mm dancing around in your room if you can pump up some good music you like just makes you feel better even if it doesn't burn off all that much energy.
I sometimes play squash with one of my best friends (who is a boy so I don't have to compare myself with him!). Its quite fun and really good exercise, it's easy to learn and you only have to play it infront of 1 other person so it's not like you have a room of people looking at you (not that people do that when they play sport i guess, it just feels like that if you're a bit insecure about your body).
It would really help to have support from your Mum, maybe you could go shopping together and try out some healthy recipes like vegetable curry or stir fry? My friend (the one I play squash with) and his family are quite overweight and have recently started to try really nice healthy food, his mum cooked spicy lentil soup and he loved it so I want to try that. His sister has lost a lot of weight and they all look happier. I'll ask him for tips tonight!
Best of luck,
Lucy

Right- anyone who wants to 'buddy up' for a bit of support- share your tips and/or dieting woes PM me whenever you feel because I don't think I'm going to be able to keep up with this thread for very long!
Fresh fruit and veg all the way...!
I've lost 4 kilograms over the past three weeks  I still eat what I used to eat, just in smalle portions. I've upped my intake of fruit and water and I've tried to reduce the amount of carbohydrates I eat (it wasn't that much to begin with really, so not much of a drastic change). So, I don't eat white bread anymore and try not to eat something like rice or pasta in the evening. Not really been doing any exercise, that's my next goal!

Well done! I don't function in kg but it sounds like a good amount. Your diet sounds healthy and achievable.

Spent the WHOLE DAY in the same room as a box of ferrero rocher today. Didn't touch a single one.

Its all about willpower - you have to have an iron will and just learn to say NO. Its hard, but you learn how to do it.
Oooh can I join too, I would like to lose 1/2 a stone, maybe a stone. this is gonna be so good...
Thank you! I too was surprised when I got on the scales this morning. I did have a HUGE dinner and loads of chocolates today though, so I'll have to burn that off tomorrow. I want to loose weight for the summer too, going on holiday.
