College Scarves

More out of curiosity than anything. Who has their college scarf? Who wears it because they like it and does anybody wear one despite hating the colours as a show of loyalty?

I love my Sidney scarf and found out last night that it's a helluva lot more comfortable than my friends' Trinity and John's scarves, which were horrible to wear...umm... not that I'd ever wear a John's scarf... *cough*.

I found that i thought the same thing the first couple times i wore it, but you get used to it really quickly. What college?

I only wear it daily/almost daily when it's really cold though. Which it isn't right now. I had a school scarf of similar material (different colours, obv) so I'm used to it.

If I do go to Cambridge, I'm wondering how often I'll be wearing that PINK scarf of Corpus... =P

Do the Oxford colleges have scarves, or just hoodies?

*wonders*

They have scarves, but I don't know what their colours are.

And what a vibrant pink it is! I'd have to think carefully about whether I'd wear it if I went there, though I have seen both guys and girls wearing them proudly, they're probably the most immediately recognisable.

They do indeed have scarves, the colours for both universities are here:

That's loyalty. Don't you think red and gold is kind of classy, though? It looks better in the flesh.. or the wool, at any rate.

Yet another person who agrees with me! I finally saw somebody wearing one a couple of days ago and they don't look *as* bad in reality, but still...

Oh, and if we're posting pictures, here's me modelling the sidney one, just uhh... don't ask about the bowler and umbrella (although I now own an umbrella in sidney colours like the stash whore than I am).

Does anyone esle wear the cambridge/college one?

Reply 15

I do, you can see a bit of the light blue from the flipside in the pic. Or were you referring to me when you said 'anyone else'?

I'm visting my friend in Oxford soon, so I might have to wear it Cambridge side out just to see if anybody comments.

Reply 16

Oh definitely. Nothing like those windy bike rides from Girton down to Sidgwick for my need for the scarf. Those are the warmest in the world. I never had a scarf that warm before in my life...

I *love* my college scarf. It's green, red and white. What more could you want?! Christmas, and greenery and whiteness ! Sounds good .

On a side note, my favourite colour is green so I'm not objecting.

I own a Trinity/Cambridge reversible, but prefer my pink pashmina

Trinity college loyalty is mahooosive though!

If you wear your scarf with your gown, you can pretend you're in Harry Potter.

Fact!

Not that I've done that, of course...

Anyway, I like my Clare scarf. I got the one without the crest on the bottom so I can wear it around at home to keep me warm (don't have many scarves) without people commenting....
