hey people

just planning some cardio and how long would you say that playing squash a day would be a good cardio workout.its just that i find running a bit boring and rowing machine gives blisters :frown:.is half and hour enough for effective workout or should it be more?

thanks in advance:wink:

Squash is absolutely exhausting. And extremely good fun
Just need a willing partner who would play one and a half hours of squash with you at various points during the week.
"GengisKahn"
entirely random but i used to have a dog called that!! sweet name xx
half an hour 3 times a week is quite adequate!!!!

yeh i would say that is great, its bettter than nothing at all.
At my local club you book the court for 40 minute sessions but often will play for longer, unless you get a knock on the door!

Usually you can book a court for 40-45mins at a time. I used to play for an hour and a half a week (haven't done it for a while since the upped the cost of the damn courts) and 'twere good fun. Advice: don't try playing tennis afterwards, you'll put the ball in orbit.

You can also go for a run - but that's generally pretty boring unless you live in the country or have an MP3 player you can listen to when you go out. (And, allegedly, having a good laugh is as good for your heart as exercise is as well...)
I find running with a partner is less boring...
As long as your heart rate is up for 30 mins at a time solid.. it's all good cardio.
I find squash tiring certainly, but I am sure it's not as good on the cardio front as running or rowing. It's quite start stop - start stop, so I don't think it keeps my heart rate consistently high over 30 minutes... Not sure how much that matters though.

Don't grip the handle tight; you should just let your fingers rest on the handle (hard to explain in words  ). Alternatively, buy plaster tape from Boots and wrap that around your hands. However, it may be best to stop using a rowing machine, unless you know the correct technique, as it can cause a few problems (esp. back injuries) if you're not doing it correctly. If, however, you're a proper rower feel free to ignore me and please don't think I'm being patronising! I'd personally stick with squash, its a really good workout + often more fun than the gym

On your hands? Use weight training gloves..
On your feet? Get better fitting trainers..
Elsewhere? That's not a rowing machine....
yeah get some gloves or you could do some more weight training and toughen up your hands...
Squash is the best!

I play for 40 mins to an hour and a half most days, which seems to keep me pretty fit. Just get a few people to play you regulary for 30 mins upwards, really.
